Uhhh. Translation quality? Is it only me or?
Ok Square we gotta talk, WHAT IN THE 99 F&CKS is wrong with this translation!!!???
Srsly what the hell??????? Japanese dub + eng subs is just plain stupid, its translated like google translate did that or some dumb ass ai. Its impossible to listen to it if you atleast know 50% what they are saying and at the same time subs say completely different $hit i understand not everything can be translated 1:1 but damn it hurts, no really it physically HURTS.

Yeah... that's why Keanu Reaves speak polish in Cyberpunk !
And Elen Page speak French in Beyond two souls !

Ho wait !

Awesome that someone actually released that. Hopefully they'll do the same for the PC release of Rebirth.
There are so many more JRPGs that could use a faithful translation instead of what are basically dubtitles that are widely different from the japanese dialogues. Worst offenders are Nintendo published games.

they indeed are. I for one like undestanding what i'm listening to and I don't mind the swearing, if anything it makes this a bit more mature and real compared to other ff game. I mean you ever hear people who speak english ? you guys swear all the time lol and so do a lot of other languages and since the game is based in a more western world concept it makes sense the languages would follow.

If you want this game to be pg 13 i don't think this is the hill the die on. Plus, most people are not weeb who understand japanese and the game already came out on console, no content will get changed, this is simply and purely a pc port of the console version, like any other game usually have. If you wanted changes from the console version, i'm sorry to say, you'll probably be disapointed. Plus FF16 is more of a spectacle video game but a lot of animated cutscene-like combat even thrown into the mix. I'd advice to play the demo to see if you like it, if its not a style of game you want to buy, that's okey, there are plenty of others game you'll probably like.

This game is mainly destined and grounded in a more western world-like kind of world, aka, it is inspired from medieval europe.

If you wanted a FF title that's centered around a japanese-like world, i'm sorry to say that for this game you are in a minority. And studio who wanna be successful don't catter to minorities.

Not everybody is a weeb who knows japanese and in fact most people who play video game these aren't.

So you can either chill out while we all wait for the game, or ♥♥♥♥ off. It's your own choice, but starting a debate over a video game won't get you anywhere i promise you.

You'd have better luck trying to teach a cow how to not eat grass and ♥♥♥♥ cow poo lol.

There should be, yeah. Only Sega so far bother to have separate scripts for EN and JP voice in their Like a Dragon series.

The JP voice in this game is actually damn good as well. I've played through multiple times with both and neither are bad. If it had dual scripts that were tailored to both and proper lipsync for both, it'd be perfect.

You don’t own the game but post a complaint to what just vent and hope to dissuade others from buying?

At least buy the game play it on PC then make it a post complaining about your experience. If you own this on PS5 go to reddit to complain there.

I don’t speak jp and happy with both English VA & subs of I need them. Not every media has to 100% faithfully represent the original language depending on context of that media and intended audience… Black Myth Wukong also has bad English translations but at the end of day, translation issues don’t trump technical performance issues etc.

Name one game where you have japanese dub without english subs saying whatever the f*k they want instead of translating properly.

I haven't seen ONE.

And for the people who actually somehow gobbled that the english version was the original one, you obviously got taken for a ride.
The actual original language is ALWAYS the one in which the story/dialogue is written FIRST.

And the writer is very clearly japanese and I seriously doubt he speaks much english, let alone write entire scripts in it.

Even if the game's writers did write a draft Japanese script first, it's not included in the game.

The Japanese dialogue featured in the final published release, was translated from English.

Which was translated from Japanese originally.
The mental backflips you people do to win an internet argument.....

Is this only for the Demo? I'm sure the console version is not like this?

The point here, is this game is the exception to every conventional wisdom about localization.

In most games the available Japanese script is the original.

But not FF16. Even Japanese players never saw nor heard what was originally written.

Modders don't have access to the early draft to restore the dialogue (and it'd be challenging for a fan project to bring the Japanese voice cast on board to record new, more accurate audio)

Sadly it is the "anaim fansub" disease that plagues the animation and game industries where instead of just translating people feel the need to reinterpret the scene in USA suburbs english version.

A script existing doesn't make it the intended one
You do know that rough drafts are a thing right?
It's not like it's impossible for the ff16 we have to have it's script that's used in game to be an English script that was translated to japanese

The reality is it would be burglary to raid Square Enix's offices to locate the original Japanese script for FF16.
