the download speed is attrocious
I have a 50 mb/s connection and Im not even getting that from steam, i have ran every optimisation i could that have been mentioned by others post including modifying the networkthrotlling key in my registry and making sure my PC doesn't shut down any device or connection at any point and i'm getting a 9 hours download time for this game. i'm not even getting 10 mb/s is steam throttling us or something or is the game badly compressed for its size making it bigger than it should be if it had a better compression ratio ?

Also, i cleared the steam client into my antivirus software and firewall so it shouldn't have any problem downloading it at full speed i'm also alone using the internet in my house so nobody else is using it.

So what's going on ? why are we not getting a reasonable download time for this game ?

Also 170 GB required for space ? man their compression ratio is atrocious, someone probably chose the lowest compression settings when they shipped the update or they need to improve their compression software its either that is someone is throttling everybody at once so it can't be every isp on earth doing this at the same, so maybe steam is doing it ?

can't say for sure, but something is going on and its not our end.

Thats a "you" problem buddy, i downloaded the game full speed here. Maybe try to change your download region within steam.

That’s a you problem.

It took me 10 minutes, depends on you and your ISP mostly

Nah, something is up.
I started & for 5 mins it said 59~ minutes to download it.
Then it got slower.
Then at 20% it said *17 hours* left.
Now it says 1H55 left (I'm at 40%).

Something's up. Downloading from my nearest datacenter (London).. I guess the servers are getting shat on with this massive download :-P.

yeah whoever is in charge of sending the file to steam probably choose the lowest compression ratio they could without knowing it would make the file bigger and didn't account for everybody wanting to download the game at once, talk about poor logistics and poor planning lol. i'll probably wait a day or two before i download this, no point in trying when everybody is cramming up the servers.

Not gonna lie, square-eenix should know better than to send a 170 GB sized game to steam especially when this many people are on that platform lol.

Whoever compressed that file before sending it f'ed up it up real bad.

I have a gigabyte connection and downloaded this in like 1 hour or less, that's a you problem OP.

^^^
This.
Developers are chronically allergic to some basic no ♥♥♥♥ decisions. Like compressing the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game lol.
I guess they think "IDC, not my bandwidth once it's on Steam LOL".

downloaded in 10 minutes too.

This is why i will never buy the better DSL packages. Ive never, not once, reached the advertised speeds on any ISP, on any continent. Neither in the USA nor the EU have i reached the speeds they say they can deliver.

And with built in "get-out" clauses in their contracts they dont even have to deliver what they advertise.

I think south korea may be the only country in the world where you actually get a decent bandwidth and latency.

As a consumer the only thing you can do to improve your situation is to live close to the cabinet, not have copper for the last mile.

bro, a normal internet speed for gaming where i live is 50 mb/s. We shouldn't have to wait 10h+ to download the game on the average connection speed and the game shouldn't be 170 gb after compression. Square-Eenix should've used a better compression ratio or use another and better compression software 170 GB for a game is huge and highly likely to clump up the server like they are now.

but i guess we shouldn't expect better from an AAA publisher, its the same thing every single time AAA dev release a game, aside than a few exception. even tho we deserve better than what we are getting tbh.

took less than 10 mins to download here mate
masterninjah Sep 17, 2024 @ 11:12am
theres 8 megabits in a megabyte so it sounds like getting under 10mbps is normal for a 50 megabit connection, megabits are not the same as megabytes and internet is measured in megabits

problem is, a 1 GB connection is not the average of what most people have, even for gaming, that's fine if you want it, but we shouldn't need a 1 GB download speed to be able to access the game after we purchase it in a reasonable amount of time. 10h+ is not reasonable, even for a average download speed of 50mb/s.

You're just brute forcing the download, instead of asking for a better product which wouldn't take 170 gb of space if they had compressed it better.

We should expect to be able to get the game in 2h at most on an average connection speed and 1 GB download speed is not average at all, its the exception.

If you are here to flex, move along we don't want to hear you. I want actual solution without having to change my isp or connection speed because doing that is not reasonable and giving us a file that is 170 GB in size to download, is not either, not when steam is such a huge platform with that many people who they know will all try to download the game as soon as it come out.

If you're here to just be on your high horse ♥♥♥♥ off we don't want you talking, you're not affected by it, if you have nothing to add nor any reasonable solutions screw yourself off and see yourself off of this discussion, if you don't have any download speed issues, you don't really need to answers back just shut the hell up and enjoy your game, i want real and reasonable solution for those of us that do.

If you aren't here to be constructive, don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reply.

I know that, i'm not even getting that bro, i'm getting like 2 megabyte per second and checked my download speed with my isp and its currently at 5 megabyte/s so there is something wrong with steam or the server or the game is just so huge that whoever has send it from square-eenix wanted to purposefully screw us off and having us wait 10h+ before we could play.

square-eenix should know better bro.
