They have the connotations that they were given by the people that invented them. I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ if a game is woke. If that story and combat is good I will play it. But then again i am really not that fragile. I remember when Tarantino, Eastwood, and Bronson were mainstream. People weren't crying about woke then.

The people who whine about "woke" are just bigots, too intellectually dishonest and cowardly to say what they really mean, and it is true that in order to preserve their narrative anything that's too successful is no longer categorized as "woke" by them.

There was a lot of whining about BG3 around its release, and the anti-woke crowd made mods to turn the one black party member into a white guy, remove gay stuff, etc. Now that game is no longer considered "woke" by them because it was too successful, so doesn't fit the "go woke, go broke" narrative.

There was anti-woke whining about SF6 when it released as well, while that series has always had a diverse cast, and there were black, gay (Sodom) and trans (Poison) characters in that universe since the 90s.

Then you have the creeps like that one guy earlier in this thread who said RE4 remake is woke because the game doesn't let you use the camera to look up the skirt of an underaged girl.
