This is the first FF game i ever played. Its alright combat rpg. Wish it had more open world and more customization but its decent, worth it on a decent sale

I don't like 7 remake's combat at all. Can't get my head around it and it's constantly overwhelming my senses. It became so bat that physically I was unable to finish it but even without the flashines of it the mixture between ATB and Real Time Action combat felt disjointed and badly telegraphed. The more energy I put into it the more frustrated I became.

FF XVI on the other hand has your standard issue Arkham Asylum style combat. Nothing to write home about but it flows well and is pretty fun overall.
I played about 10 sidequests there tonight where the person you need to walk towards to complete the quest was literally 5 metres away. And just keep repeating that until you meet the last one and can click 'warp to quest giver' to complete it.

It's like they hate the idea of their own workmanlike inane side quests so much that even they don't want you traveling too far to just 'click x a few times to progress' or to be in too much bother re: just 'getting it all over and done with it'.

I'm sorry you find FF7R's combat overwhelming, but it does have a less demanding mode to choose. However, in no way is XVIs combat anything like Arkham Asylum. It just simply isn't.

Yeah, I guess, I just had that general vibe. Maybe just your average 3rd person action combat. I wouldn't quite call it a spectacle fighter and certainly not a souls like.
I have been playing over a week now and I am really liking the game. More so then I did ff15. Someones comment really struck out at me by calling it a fake final fantasy. I think that is a little off because final fantasy has been changing a lot ever since ff12. Square keeps trying to do something new with it and the first thing they usually attack is the tried and true ATB counters. Also it is easy to see final fantasy 16's world does not seem as whimsy or fantastical as other games in the series have been. Final fantasy 0 comes to mind as a similar theme.

I will admit I am of the ATB crowd, I do not consider it a traditional FF game without it. But that just means that ff16 is once again not a traditional FF game. The locations are not nearly varied enough, you lack a diverse number of companions to party with, they don't matter. The game is all about you, kind of like FF13-3.

With that said, I am liking the story, the music is amazing, the graphics are still pretty phenomenal, and I am totally digging the gameplay. There is just enough variance in abilities that you can choose your type of play, AOE monster, single target slugger, or do you like to bring the pain to any enemies you lure int to take a swing at you? I have noticed there is an exceptional attempt at making it so your fights are not always the same, the game is constantly tossing mini bosses at you.

This really shouldn't be a game to pass up and I think square really messed up with making it a ps5 exclusive. The PC release ended up being of little fanfair. It also does not help the game needs a monster of a pc to run above 30fps.
Gameplay and story wise, I have no complaint with FFXVI. However, the optimization of the PC port is abysmal. The graphics aren't so much better than FFVII Remake that it should require 8GB VRAM. I've been playing video games since the NES days and I'm not frame-rate obsessed but this PC port deserves all the hate, at least until it's fixed.

This isn't optimization of the pc port, this is how the game runs on the ps5, too. The ps5 has no solid 60fps mode, its performance mode is sub 1080p resolutions. This engine does a bit more than the unreal 4 based engine FF7R is based off of. Lighting is much more realistic, shadowing is phenomenal (No one knows what it really is but on high it is as good as raytraced). Also I am sure it is key to the dominant battles.

It is definitely an engine for the future but it does struggle with current mid and low range hardware. If I was running anything lesser I would shelve the game until I did my 50x0 upgrades.

Did anyone else react when that old guy said that Torgall had been all over his nuts?

Its not a bad game its a bad "FF". If you liked it because its was a party (j)rpg. My broblem isn´t the fight system, round or not i dont care play both kind of games (yakuza, trails, Y, star ocean, tales, xenoblade, persona.....).

But now also the party is gone (was already in ff15 as you have fixed ones there with only a guest sometimes). now all rpg is gone, no elemet weaknesses, crafing useless (crafted gear is a litte bit better but useless in 20 min after the next boss because the autodrop is better than what you have).

Its a DmC with a FF story. I own every FF on pc and PS but this one only on ps5 because i never finished this one and maybe never will because i hate that this one get the ff name and all my hope is lost for the francise maintitel going forward.

At least we got rebirth for me the best FF since ff12. And also much better than remake.(yes it has (too)much sidecontent as the original but there is no need to make it, the only difference is that now there is a "checklists" that makes you aware of it.
Really? we start getting drops? aside from the time jump, all of my gear has been crafted. Usually its the items from the bosses that let me craft the next step up. My only complaint is I seem to have a new weapon or main armor slot every 30 minutes, and it isn't like any kind of monstrous upgrade. And it is a pretty brain dead tier system. You just get what ever the highest level set is.

the accessories are far more configurable because they augment your builds, and this is where FF16 is still an RPG. You get lots of spells and abilities but can't use them all, so you mix and match to create builds. And you don't get the usual elemental weaknesses but you do get enemies susceptible to wind/fire/lightning and instead you have to break defenses. Juggle and topple. I am actually happier that we don't need to maintain a set of mage spells and instead have unique attacks and abilities that are eikon augmented.

There are some things which are bad, but not all. As people said, if you liked Game of Thrones, then you will like this one. I didn't like GoT, though I think FF16 did a better job. What killed the game for me is the romance and sex scene in there and where the main heroine needs saving all the time. The typical "I am a princess, so I get captured, so now come and save me"

Well women are weak af ofc they will get captured just like that when trading blows with men
This game is an abomination in every way and just another nail in the coffin for a franchise that has lost its way

What’s to like?

Braindead button mashing gameplay with enemies that take forever to kill

So many ugly particle effects that you can’t see what’s going on

Eikon fights which are basically interactive cutscenes

Cutscenes that go on forever and make up most the game.

Linear boring level designs and no actual party

A game chasing trends because someone thought it would be cool to rip off game of thrones years after it was still relevant

The worst side quests imaginable

A game that wastes your time by constantly forcing you to run back and forth in hub sections talking to everyone

Unlikeable characters, well actually Cid wasn’t bad but well, can’t spoilt why he turned into a let down

No memorable music whatsoever

The whole game is just horrible and it sold terribly and rightfully so

It’s final fantasy in name only

Square go back to your roots, maybe just maybe you can save this franchise but I highly doubt it

It's a fun and great action game. Terrible RPG though
