I used controller Type B on PS5. It was serviceable, but could be better.

First of all you need to be able to hold a charge on Melee and Magic, which means you can't have Eikonic Ability 1/2 bound to the same button. As well as Downthrust/Lunge and Taunt.
Less important, but still relevant for ease of use is not overlapping with jump, dodge, feat, and Cycle Eikons. What I worked out is:

This way we overlap with Reset Camera (non-issue) and jump. Since Cycle is on Triangle you wont have to release L2 to cycle, very nice for aerial combos and good quality of life.

I just started on PC. I'll report back when I have more thoughts
