And rightly so.
FF7 was lauded by humans. FF16 is disparaged by humans.
Ah okay. Um, I'm sorry? I didn't mean to.. I don't know, do whatever I did to get this reaction out of you. I don't like conflict and thought we were just having a friendly conversation. You are right. FF7 is a legendary game and there was no pushback of any kind, everybody liked it. Okay? There, you win. Best wishes.
And I was so disappointed. Couldn’t believe how childish the game was. So different than I remembered.
On the other hand the Final Fantasy Tactics (ps1 version) remains as my top 1. The game ages like a fine wine.
Also, the story is brutal and goriest of all FF series. Its like take GOT Jon's story and make a twist out of it! XDD.
Finally DMC combat designer did a damn fine job, and Yoshi went all in for the graphics, since he was fed up with ff14 old 2007 engine! I really f!Q@ing cant believe it this is not Unreal engine 5.
There is a reason why Tekken 8 took a full boss battle stage from ff16 and made it to their special arena!
People did complain with FFXI because it was online and was not friendly (people act mean online)
People did complain with FFIX because they didn't like the artist direction, even people did complain for the Coke ad.
People did complain with FFVIII because story have several plot holes. Also, the progression is weird (Lv100 Omega Weapon, hello).
People did complain with FFVII because it was 3D and it wasn't fully turn based combat. And has lots of cinematics (yes, there were people like that).
You just want argue with people over nothing or you just hate FFXIII so much.
BTW Since forever dungeon design has been poor in JRPG overall. Always been their weakness, but I think most of us are already used to it.
I think the last dungeon design that was really unfair for the players was The Water Dungeon in Tales of Zestiria, because right before the last room there was a trap that teleport you to the beginning wasting 1-2hrs of your time. Or the platforms in Tokyo Xanadu ex+, because rating was based on time completion.
Maybe people should stop comparing level design from games like Elden Ring to the game industry overall. Environment is not a enemy in JRPGs.
FF13 did something really neat with its encounters. At the start of a dungeon, you'd face easy combinations of enemies, but as you went further in, the combinations would become more difficult until you got to the area boss. Since all enemy encounters were models you could run into, they could design it in that way so each enemy was made up of a different number of combinations.
I will give you 12, but where were these other "people"? What demographic will I have to start to query? Why didnt they exist in the 90s? In the 28 years since its release I havent found 1 person who claimed FF7 sucked ass. Since FF16 released I havent found 1 person who thought FF16 didnt suck ass. How could the dislike ever be compared? FF was defining genres in the past. It was creating a AAA standard. This FF is forgotten in less than a year.
I have conversations aboit FF7 with my work mates multiple times per year still. Do you predict my children will be talking about FF16 and FF17 with their co workers at all when they are my age?
There is an apples to apples comparison for you.
Maybe you should ask Dragon Quest fans about this or any other JRPG franchise.

I can granted you this. FFVII was a huge production back in its days.
There is a huge fan base around the world since the Remake launched. You can check Square Enix financial reports. There is a section only dedicated to Tifa merch. Not the Original FFVII design, but the new Remake design.
You keep trying too hard to prove everyone is wrong but you. Clearly you are living in a echo chamber and you don't like what others saying. Im done with you because you keep repeating the same thing over and over.
Do you think this game has nearly as large of a fan base as FF7 (not even going to bother bringing up FF10)
Who cares about the other people. Apples to apples, I will come and ask you how much you enjoy this game in 30 years and we can see the comparison.
Yeah I agree, ff7 is hard game to go back to... I know for me its the ps1's 3d graphics, I can't stand them. I still like to play 2d ps1 games, my favourite being Lunar Silver Star Story and a runner up would be Suikoden II with an honourable mention for Tales of Phantasia, its excellent with an english patch, much better than gba version and even snes version I think, the redone sprites look really good and it even has voiced skits ( though the voices are japanese with subtitles).
But anyway ff7 is just an assault on my eyeballs in its original form. I suppose I could run through emulation and increase resolution to somewhat negate that effect, but I bet it kinda also makes it worse because while it would increase the resolution of the 3d models, it can't magically increase the resolution of pre-rendered assets like backgrounds and cut scenes, it'd probably make them look worse, as you can more clearly see the defects when resolutions increase.
Maybe if I played the pc version with a bunch of mods I could get something acceptable, I'm not sure. Anyway point is I personally do not think 3d ps1 games have aged well visually. Thats just my personal opinion.
I haven't played tactics yet, but being as its sprite based, and I like tactics games, I don't see why I wouldn't like it in its original form. But just haven't got around to it yet.
