Why a bad game and why "woke" ?

I decided to buy the game as a life long FF fan primarily and because it was also targeted by the chad mobs for being "woke" and I felt like another diverse game needed my support.

So apart from Terence and Dion indirectly implied to be gay what is "woke" aka diverse and inclusive about this game ? Everyone is white, cis, straight, females are weak side kicks per usual (even Jill even though she is a Dominant) ? So a single scene with the mere suspicion that a character might be gay is enough for the rabid crowd to attack a game now, this is how far we have fallen and how far the anti diversity agenda has progressed ? Honestly as a queer gamer, the gaming community feels less and less welcoming every day to people like me...I am thankful even for this small representation though and happy that games like Dustborn also exist.

Moving on to what makes this a "bad" FF game so let's start from the easy ones :

Is it the story ? Nope the story and the cinematography of it are STUNNING honestly in every possible way. It shares many generic FF story elements but manages to be more mature than usual, have better character development and engage in more mature themes even (even allowing characters to showcase intimacy which is something very recent in FF games imo if we exclude some Tidus/Yuna scenes in FF10).

Is it the graphics and performance ? I see a lot of people complaining about it and yes optimization might be an issue for many but honestly maybe most has to do with pcs not being able to handle it ? I play on a beast of a gaming laptop admittedly with an RTX 4080 and have run into zero issues so far performance - wise except some extremely minor frame drops in busy cutscenes.

Which brings me to gameplay and the grievances many players have with the action oriented combat approach FF has taken since 13 (arguably 12 started it with a hybrid of turn based and live action combat and the gambit system but that's another conversation). Do I love it ? No, I do feel sometimes that my combat actions do not matter and I am destined to win the battle regardless of what I do (even playing on the action focused setting). But key word here is SOMETIMES. Even with older turn based combat I had this feeling and I feel like nostalgia is clouding a lot of people's judgement here. How many times have you felt threatened by a random encounter in e.g. the pixel era of FF (1-6) ? I would say about the same amount of times as in this game. FF on its MAIN STORY content has rarely been THAT challenging and with a common sense approach and built you could easily overcome any battle. What made FF challenging from the very beginning up to this remake and FF7 Remake and Rebirth is the OPTIONAL challenges ranging from side quests to super bosses. And while I haven't reached the end game content to acknowledge if this is the case here I can see big potential for the need for strategic planning even in an action based combat system (which in an appropriate framework could feel even slightly Soul-sy like maybe ?).

My favourite FF games games are 10 and 12 and has been a while since I played them and you know what I remember from those games ? FF10 dark eons and penance and battle arena encounters. Maybe Omega Ruins as well. FF12 I remember hunts (Yazmat mainly), Pharos and maybe Great Crystal and Omega. That's it game wise. Yes stories were great as well but in terms of memorable encounters main story encounters hardly left a longstanding impact on me. Yet those games are considered top tier ! (Yes even 12 an often overlooked gem imo).

So other than an action based approach that still needs its strategic planning for endgame I suppose I don't see what makes 16 a disappointing entry in the series. Yes it's different, yes it can be alienating but it takes little away from what I know and love from FF personally.

Thats clown farming on a whole different lvl. But this game isn't famous enough for that so I advice you to go to the space marine 2 forum. People there farm easy infinite points.
