Hello ,

I wanted to start the game on Final fantasy mode (hard mode) and i asked a friend to lend me his Clear save data. I copied the files and i can see his save data where he cleared the game but new game+ isnt appearing. any advice?

The game likely does not detect that you have cleared despite having the data. New Game + unlocks when you beat the final boss. You should clear Origin once even on the "Cleared Data" and this might help the game recognise that you have actually cleared.

If this is your first time playing through the game, I strongly suggest just starting the game normally and going through the natural progression even if it is a bit slow. Final Fantasy Mode and Ultimaniac really are only designed for people who have most abilities unlocked.

To further elaborate the question. Is there something more than the clear itself that triggers access to the new game + option on the main menu? I know by default square enix is generating the saves into the .png files under C:\Users\%User%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XVI\Steam\

But there must be something more other than that otherwise why would the new game plus option be available to the original player but not to the recipient of the transplanted save? Ideally we can figure out why and share it with anyone else who wants access to FF mode (highest difficulty) without having to play the game once. Does anyone else know if something else is being stored by the game that needs to be copied beyond the game save?

Ask your friend to start the game ON Final Fantasy Mode and save the game after the first cutscene. You MAY be able to start off from this point, but I would suggest playing through at least the Demo so you would have the context that led up to that point in the save as this may skip through the prologue.

He should make sure that he makes a separate save slot aside from the clear Data.

I will also note:

If your friend did NOT do all the side quests, you will miss out on fusing items. A lot of items from base game and NG+ can be double obtained and you can fuse them together on FF difficulty to get stronger version of accessories. This is not a huge deal if you only plan on using the Bits from Omega anyway.
