I think people would be happy to just have a RPG back. Its easy to see the divide between Action RPG and Turn Based RPG but FF16 is not even a RPG. Its a Action game with a facade of a RPG painted over it. This game lacks what most people look for in every RPG, Player Choice. Now those choices can come in a variety of ways from story to character builds but this game lacks EVERYTHING that makes a Action/Turnbased RPG.... A RPG.
This game has disappointed a lot of people and may have mined the field for FF XVI
I loved the combat in the FF7 Remake games. I would be very happy if the FF series utilized this as the foundation going foward, and Dragon Quest series for turn-based.
It's not a surprise because JRPGS >>>>>>>>>>>>>> hack and slash games
cope with your rehashed persona 5 from 8 years ago
I'm clapping for this, very well said my friend.
The issue goes much deeper than just the combat system... people want to play an RPG, not an action game.
I also loved the old turn based games
I also really enjoyed like a dragon which is the best iteration of modern turn based RPG I've seen in a while.
I agree it doesn't feel like a final fantasy game but I am still enjoying it regardless and it's one of the best games I've played this year.
Also for the complaints of linearity of this game, they all have very linear main stories. The side quests were hidden though which have given off the perception of non linearity. The modern games tell you where the sidequests are. That is the biggest design difference after combat
