The real question here is if you like hack and slash games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Destiny Warriors.
I thought it took cues from Soulslikes and Dragons Dogma type action RPGs?
There is nothing soulslike about it. Think DMC combat with abilities reminiscent of Titan, Garuda etc. the combat can be really fun if you are into trying out and learning combos. And if not for that, the story and overall spectacle are enough already for some to enjoy it.
Not the squads, the bosses. I watched a few videos of Dynasty Warriors Origins and the boss is almost the same: yellow ,,bar" that stagger the boss when you deplete it, OP dodge, dramatic zoom when a big attack is about to happen, non-stop attacking because what's stamina? we don't do that here.

And I agree with Vasco, the story and characters are very good.
I would have considered myself a turbofan up until 13, didn't like 15 from what I played. But I definitely think 12 was peak gameplay.
Fights involve 2 or 3 damage sponges for 10 minutes. Flashy moves but near to no damage.
Running from one end of a corridor to another just to get 10 gil.
The "RPG" elements in this game is just equipping a sword, armor & accessory. Each you get +1 variations through out the story.
The story is fine but overall, gameplay is so boring.
