Maybe tone down the blame on countries. Steam has way more games that are ok in these countries than consoles because it isn't as mainstream as console market.
The blame here solely lies with Square Enix who refused to make any minor changes to the game and pre-emptively decided to region lock the game just because of one country who flagged them to make changes and so Square Enix decided to punish the whole region for that...
Really in the end, all parties being inflexible is causing us the consumer the pain and loss.
And western values doesn't equal world values btw. The world might tolerate some stuff, doesn't mean it accepts it.
I don't know details nor have I looked at it thoroughly but some sort of gay couple kissing?
The game was banned in some countries when released on playstation coz Square Enix refuse remove the gay guy
It was first banned in Saudi Arabia, then more and more country ban it.
if it was banned from the government, then nothing Square can to help.
I knew you were fishing. Lets go, as a gamer, my priority is getting and playing the game. I can't control the government and I can't control the publisher. I played a ton of games and enjoyed despite many having values that don't agree with mine or even don't represent me from any perspective.
So please, don't turn this into some form of reverse censorship. Focus on the main issue here, a game not reaching it's audience and fanbase in massive parts of the world (MENA and SE Asia). If you can't help with that, don't press on our wound by supporting the region lock... Just not cool really.
An Artist should not HAVE to Censor their own Art just to be able to Sell it in another Country. Sorry to inform you, but Artists dont have to Accept your Countries Morals or Laws if they dont wish to, and that goes both ways.
I get that your Upset, but if your a Fan then you should actually be happy that the Artist is not Compromising their Artistic Integrity just so they can make more Money.
Let us not get hung up on exactly what is being removed but focus on a realistic way forward. Remember, a lot of regions view games as no big deal. Noone is gonna go to the streets to protest government decisions on games and if they did, they will be a small group and noone would listen to them.
I also dont agree with WoW removing Skulls for China, and I would also not be happy if any Game from China making any Changes to their Games to sell to the West. An example being Twitter trying to get them to include more "Diversity" into Genshin. Each Countries Art reflects its own Culture, and not every Culture is going to Mix. Thats just the Harsh Truth of the World.
Artists should not have to alter ANY aspect of their Art in order to sell in another Country, after all that IS Censorship. Just because you want to Play a Game badly enough to accept Censorship, does not mean others are going to be okay with it.
EDIT: Also want to add that the whole Blizzard thing is rather amusing, because in case you did not know they had a falling out. All Blizzard Games got Banned a few Years ago due to them not being willing to allow for the CCP to have even MORE control over Blizzard.
Sony has nothing to do with it
