Black Comet would make sense for a final stage. But the way the game builds up Radical Highway up to the end means that if it was anything else then it probably would have felt weird.
But considering they're also working on the next main game styled after Frontiers before this game released, its probably good for them to have all their attention on that since the scale is going to be much larger.
i think it’s more strange that shadow just didn’t straight up get his own true game again, instead they just tacked his content onto a 14 year old game
sonic team is lazy.
This is pretty much Shadow Game 2 with generations theming, that just so happens to come with a Generations port too.
There CAN'T be a "Frontiers 2" anyways.
Besides, it's its infamous Final Horizon to be hated due to how poorly its was done, starting from its insane and unenjoyable "difficulty spike".
I for one really enjoyed how difficult the Final Horizon content was.
While yes, I played it after they tweaked a few aspects of it such as the timing of the perfect parry and some of the trials, the actual platforming itself, while some of the most difficult in the series up to this point, was a ton of fun and I loved the challenge it provided.
Not to mention it's optional content that casual players who don't care about nor want the challenge can safely ignore, and there are no achievements tied to it anyway. This isn't the first time a Sonic game got DLC that was brutal in difficulty, either - Sonic Unleashed also had some of the hardest levels in the entire franchise with their paid DLC level packs.
Final Horizon is great.
Intentionally difficult too. So complaining about it being “too difficult” ignores the many parts the game itself warns you to prepare before attempting.
Not only is there the message you get warning you of the challenge, but even Sage describes it as a “grueling obstacle” in a cutscene right before you start it.
That line was also all over the trailers.
It’s almost like if you want an alternate happier ending, you have to work for it. Although they do still let you switch to Easy Mode if you really don’t care for the intended method.
(it also fits the Evangelion parallel the game is full of already. Final Horizon is the equivalent of “End of Frontiers”. You know…..movie famous for giving fans what they begged for while also being hard to watch for its characters. And in that case, all that happens for a worse ending to occur. So Frontiers is a lot more positive by making that the happier ending)
“Lack of any warning”. Uhhhhhhhhh…did you not read the big white text box that appears when you touch the ring portal? If you know how to read, then there’s your warning. And if you pay attention to cutscenes, Sage tells you it’s going to be a challenge before you start and that it’s recommended to play the normal ending first.
Spindash encouraged in cyber stages and some stage gimmicks that have never been done in prior cyber stages.
New tower challenges that really test the platforming. Fair but difficult. If you really can’t make it (or have low patience), you can switch to Easy even if it ruins part of the point.
The combat challenges at the top of each tower are fun. Especially Tower 2 where you have to kill the shield enemies in two minutes. Smart puzzle that filters those who don’t think of an alternate solution and played the rest of the game by button mashing. An easy challenge once you figure out what the puzzle is asking.
Boss refights are great since you finally have to think about parry timing and can’t just hold them forever. Turns easy spectacle bosses into challenging spectacle bosses.
Amy, Knuckles, and Tails all play incredibly well. Especially after Knuckles glide was patched to be more instant.
Harder versions of mini bosses.
A ton of story details to find that aren’t necessary, but really show how much thought there was in environmental story.
A very satisfying ending that really pairs up with the idea of “it was all worth it”. Especially if you kept the difficulty on “”Hard Mode””
At least come up with an actual reason. Cause if you can't, then we can just assume its a skill issue.
