For some reason that stops the crashing on the sonic side permanently.
Running on Arch Linux using Proton. Should be fine since this is what the Steam Deck uses too.
The only thing I can think of that was different was instead of launching Sonic, I played the Shadow side last night. I played Sonic Generations for hours before trying Shadow. Does playing Shadow's half break the Sonic Generations half? If so that's hilarious
This didn't work for me, but for anyone Googling this I found another solution. Posting this in a couple threads to feed the search engine crawlers.
Go to AppData > Roaming > SEGA > SONIC_X_SHADOW_GENERATIONS > steam > x64
In there, there's a screen_setting.xml file, open it with notepad or whatever you prefer and change "fullscreenState=" to equal 0 rather than 1.
The file path on Linux using Proton (eg Steam Deck, Arch/Artix, Ubuntu, Mint, etc) is /home/[USERNAME]/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2513280/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/SEGA/SONIC_X_SHADOW_GENERATIONS/steam/x64
Jiminy cricket that's a long file path lol
I noticed the non-fullscreen resolution was set to a weird resolution, 1912x980. This is likely what causes the crash for most people. Once you edit this .xml it rebuilds the resolution correctly.
haven't been able to get it to crash again so far. have tested with both fullscreen and windowed borderless. Make sure the settings on the Shadow side match the settings on the Sonic side.
Look two posts up, does editing screen_setting.xml help?
