All of the boost games are garbage except Unleashed and Generations. Generations had to copy other games and re-use levels and assets for it to be successful, and is to blame for sonic team becoming completely lazy(hence shadow DLC in generations and re-selling it as a full game) and never doing anything new or original anymore and milking the boost gameplay to death.
I played Sonic Unleashed recently and completed it, I got to say it is a good game. The hub world and levels are really good, I enjoy playing the day and night level. Getting S rank in that game is a challenge, which is something that I like.
The DLC that it got are good.
As for Sonic Heroes, I watched some videos since I haven't played it in a long time and it still looks impressive. The level and the tag team mechanic was good.
The weakness of the boost game is that there are many areas that are completely empty, just a long path with nothing in it.
Kirby are great games so this makes no sense.
Nintendo made many of the best platformers ever made so what's the issue copying them?
"Paper-thin story" it's just a platformer with a blue hedgehog, we don't play them for the story.
Depth means nothing for a game.
Heroes is nowhere near to be the peak, SA2 has 2/3 of the gameplay being toned down and SA1 had the Amy and Big levels. Colours is consistent.
A platformer game doesn't mean that it can't have a good story to it. Ratchet and Clank is a good example of it being a platformer game and having a good story.
There is nothing wrong with Sonic Adventure 2 having 3 different gameplay style. Although I can see why people wouldn't like Amy and Big level in Sonic Adventure 1.
I prefer Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 over Sonic Colours, when it comes to gameplay, story, mini game and content.
I would like to see Sonic Adventure 3, which would have Chao Garden, multiple characters and being 100% 3D. It has been a long time since we last got a 100% 3D Sonic game.

"Iizuka is now saying that Chao Gardens will only return if Sonic Adventure 3 ever happened.".

"At some time, yes, because we hear the same thing. Everybody wants it!".
I copied the quote that proves my point about Chao Garden.
Edit one last thing, Shadow power doesn't bring Shadow to a stop. The Wisp powers stops Sonic movement and has to stay still.
