How exactly do you use the squid kid ability in Shadow?
They keep placing things directly above grapple points, but I don't exactly understand how I'm meant to reach any of them. As far as I know, I can either launch myself through them, or swing from an arc below them.

You homing attack the ball to transform and can swinf, yes. What the game doesn’t tell you is if you RELEASE mid swing, you’ll launch straight upward. You’ll need it to reach some boxes by mephiles’ boss gate[\spoiler]

Yea, it's a little unintuitive. Swinging and "slingshotting" aren't usually lumped into one mechanic like that.
