I found a fix for my issue. Funnily enough, it was the same kind of fix I needed to do for Yakuza 0. Go to this folder:
AppData > Roaming > SEGA > SONIC_X_SHADOW_GENERATIONS > steam > x64
In there, there's a screen_setting.xml file, open it with notepad or whatever you prefer and change "fullscreenState=" to equal 0 rather than 1.
After that, the game opened and Full Screen didn't cause any more crashes after that, but I decided to set my game to always be Borderless Windowed just to be safe.
Because just a heads up the initial screen is a launcher I tested it it closes and then opens the game so you might be able to launch the games directly in your files.
When I was having the issue, I did check this, and launching either executable gave me the same result. Makes sense that fixing the .xml file ended up fixing both games too.
tried this out, didnt work... tested with other values, changed the resolution, nothing worked. If anyone else know of a solution for it I'd be rlly rlly glad :)
Bumping this thread for anyone Googling for Arch Linux / Steam Deck / Artix
The file path on Linux using Proton is /home/[USERNAME]/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2513280/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/SEGA/SONIC_X_SHADOW_GENERATIONS/steam/x64
Jiminy cricket that's a long file path lol
I noticed the non-fullscreen resolution was set to a weird resolution, 1912x980. This is likely what causes the crash for most people. Once you edit this .xml it rebuilds the resolution correctly.
haven't been able to get it to crash again so far.
