knuckles not being the "idiot."
amy not being "the stalker."
tails no longer being "the useless kid."
shadow not being "the jerk,"
are changes that needed to happen.
don't forget that colors onward is the reason the term "sonics stupid friends." exists. in the first place.
This is the beginning of a slippery slope, or to but it more bluntly... give them an inch, and they'll take a mile! This kind of malpractice should never be tolerated, no matter how "small" and "insignificant" the changes are! Period!
Who waks off to a bat?
i mean if a bat looked like rouge. im honest enough to say game is game.
Also why changing writing when the story is simple to begin with?
And finally sorry but the slippery slope has been proved true (or at least when you give some people a hand they take the arm).
And I'd argue that for the sake of preservation I don't like when they rewrite the story to fit the current era just for the sake of it.
Have you NOT realized how many times SONIC has actually been censored?! You're acting as if this is the first time SONIC has ever been censored, which is not true.
Sonic the Hedgehog has been known to have rushed games... but you might not understand why they are rushed. Let's show examples of how this series has rushed itself, shall we? no sonic game is a finalized complete product. Every game has at least some unused material, debatably censorship...
In Sonic Forces, we would have been shown a leaked script which tells that we would've seen Mephiles in the game at one point. Would you consider this censorship?
In Sonic Frontiers, the islands used to be merged, together. They were later split to make the game... well, longer. An example of this is that the 1st and fourth island are basically the same island, we simply just explored a different section on the island, the top section instead on the 4th island. Would you consider this censorship?
In Sonic 06, there are two unused music tracks. These music tracks never were produced, yet have file names in the game itself. Some cutscenes also don't even exist. There was more story that was cut out, clearly. Originally, a day / night system was planned, and we would've seen the sky change periodically. Would you consider this censorship?
In Sonic Unleashed, we would have seen Sonic's skeleton when he was electrocuted. We don't get to see his skeleton in the full game. Would you consider this censorship?
As well, all of the Sonic... games, have multiple unused lines. Unused dialogue for every single game. Would you consider this censorship?
At one point in Sonic Colors, eggman would've said "NO! HE'S STRONGER THAN SUPER SONIC!" Would you consider this censorship? I stand by my point, every sonic game has been censored or revisioned to some degree whether you know about it or NOT. Now that you know this information, what will you do?
Also I'm glad that they didn't mention the hyper go on being stronger than the Chaos Emeralds because Sonic Colours' story was supposed to be its own self contained story and it would've also been a weird power scaling retcon like Hyper Sonic and Sonic being able to Chaos Control with a fake emerald.
On the other hand Generations is an already established game with its story.
"sonic not using his hands a writing fix" context for that statement?
because the dialogue was bad and had almost nothing related to the story?
slippery slope has and will always be a fallacy.
because i think the push to genetic engineering deadly diseases out of the genie pool like sickle cell, diabetes, cancer, and AIDS is a good thing does that mean i will start supporting eugenic? i think not.
it's a nonsensical fallacy people use to prevent good changes far to often.
i don't think rewriting storys is either good or bad it depends how it's done and in this case i think it was needed.
and it's defiantly not censorship.
No joke, there was going to be a lot more than what we saw in the actual game, but due to the ESRB introducing the E10+ rating at the time SEGA decided to shoot for that as opposed to a more mature T rating, so they toned down several aspects of the game to achieve that age rating.
Stuff like Maria's death cutting to white before it's actually shown to the player, the swearing becoming a lot less frequent and more mild, green alien blood instead of red, and so on, just so they could have a lower age rating in the US. (it was still rated 12+ in Europe anyway)
Any and all censorship in this game (if it even exists at all) is nothing by comparison.
The "Sonic's stupid friends" stuff started way before that, I remember hearing that way back in the Adventure days.
I also don't see Knuckles as an idiot because Amy gave him a comedic slap into the tree. It's just silly humour, harmless. I hardly see how the slightly less aggressive slap is an improvement, it's the same thing dialled down a notch. It wasn't even bad, just a bit of fun to demonstrate how much strength Amy has when she gets irritated.
As for Amy being a stalker, I never got that impression. I read a post from somebody describing Amy and Sonic that I happen to agree with. It's like the cat and the mouse, a constant pursuit of near captures and repeated escapes. The reason why you see it as Amy being a stalker is because you have lost the ability to suspend your disbelief, you're applying real world logic and can't accept how their relationship is described in universe. Also, not every single character needs be layered. Being one dimensional for comedic value can be fun.
What you're describing is not censorship. The ESRB is simply a ratings board, not a censorship board. They aren't applying pressure to video game companies to remove, change, or manipulate content because they believe nobody should see it. It's a guidance for parents so they know if the content they are purchasing is suitable for children.
