Knuckles himself was absent from Unleashed.
Blaze, despite travelling dimensions, was absent from Forces.
I'm talking about mainline episodes and to be honest Rouge already appeared in Gens.
Shadow's story should focus only on Shadow and not shoehorn Rouge or Omega like in Forces.
Knuckles got absent of Unleashed and it was fine.
In fact Shadow is merely a secondary character that isn't necessary to the series outside of rivality.
I don't see why Shadow friends won't turn into stone by the villain. There is no reason for them not to appear, when this game is about time being affected by the villain.
Sonic 06 events hasn't happened, yet Sonic 06 stage is in Sonic Generations.
Not counting SA2 Battle's MP mode Amy Rose she was the only female character to play like Sonic as well.
