Mephiles the Dark being the Shadow's story big bad.

What if the Shadow addition is a sequel to Generations where Mephiles the Dark was able to escape being erased from existence temporarily because of the Time Eater with Mephiles doing everything he can to undo his defeat in 06 by trying to get Shadow to join him as he tried before in 06.

Mephiles and Iblis form Solaris who is a "super-dimensional lifeform and a god of time", so it's not beyond belief that Mephiles could notice timeline manipulation and use it as a escape only to be constantly followed by time itself wanting to correct his existence.
