Game theory: why this exists
I have a feeling this game was not made to remake, generations, but rather to port the game to the nintendo switch successor a possibly cloud gaming

No one cares about Nintendo or the switch 2. This game was made to fix shadow's origin story and image in time for the third Sonic movie.

Most remasters only exist to be dumped on the Nintendo Switch these days, so yeah.

Actually most remasters exist just to put it on steam for PC. You have to remember their are still a lot of games trapped on consoles. This one is an exception as the last game got the rare PC port form Sega.

It probably exists for the same reason games like Origins or Colors Ultimate exist. Simply to put the game on newer hardware so new fans have easier means to access it.

Generations already existed on PC, sure, but keep in mind little Timmy's family computer may not be good enough to run a game like Generations (especially when you take into consideration just how poorly optimized it's PC port is).

The Shadow content is just some neat little bonus stuff. No one wants a straight port, especially of a game that doesn't have all that much content to begin with (no, I'm not counting mods because consoles don't have access to that stuff). Give old fans a reason to double dip, and give the new fans a beefier game as well. Two birds with one stone.

So yeah, it does exist to get ported to the Switch. But it exists to also give people with the PS4/Xbox One means to access one of the better Sonic titles of the past decade as well.

It does exists on the Xbox One currently but it's a double edged sword. The game was not made for 60 fps, and it shows. One immediate example that comes to mind is a shortcut in Chemical Plant where you grab onto a hook just does not work, and will fling Sonic off it. It's been awhile since I last went red ring hunting, but I believe there's a red ring at the end of it too. So not only do some scripted segments not work, the game is also impossible to 100%.

All current "newer hardware" except the Switch can already play Sonic Generations. It can be played on Xbox One and Series through backwards compatibility, and it's available on PS Now. The original PC port can run on a potato, and this port will have higher system requirements.

Also, I would always prefer a simple port over whatever a remaster is these days.

Via Cloud streaming. It doesn't even run natively on the actual PS4/5 hardware itself.
And yes, it absolutely matters as the PS Now service for cloud streaming isn't even available in some countries like Australia, which means that's not even an option here.

Doesn't matter. Games don't need to be re-released every time a new console gets released. Don't get a new console for playing old games, if it doesn't have backwards compatibility.

That's exactly why I didn't get a PS4.

Well yes but actually no sega has had a deal with nintendo to release their games on their systems and the switch successor will most likely sell millions on day one, so from sega's pov, having a version of one of the most popular sonic games on one of the most successful systems

sorry i summoned the nintendo haters

I am a certified Nintendo hater, but I understand that the Switch is the second best selling console of all time, only surpassed by the PlayStation 2. So yes, people do care about Nintendo and the Switch. Unfortunately.

Eh, nintendo is semi on the behalf of releasing sega games but i'm kind of positive that sega now releases their games on third party consoles. (probably)
