I think I ended up playing poker in Zero no Kiseki for almost 3-4 hours straight as soon as I had access to it in the Evolution version, and didn't bother advancing the game at all. Whoops.
I must have missed something because it seems like getting more medals is pointless once you exchange for all the prizes you want? Because you can only exchange mira for medals, but not vice versa, right?
I bought 20 medals, and lost them in a few spins on the slots. Then, I bought 20 more medals, and spent about 15 minutes at the poker table. In that 15 minutes, I won enough medals to buy all the items I wanted from the prize lady because the odds are comically good. Then, I left. So, I don't see how you could be at the poker table for two hours..........unless you're just playing poker for fun?
But yeah, I have the same problem as @omgfloofy with the poker
This. Right here.
Heehee. Okay, I can't relate, but I can understand.
Ooooohhhh, now fishing.......on the other hand.
*kill one trash mob of monsters*
*drops several different types of bait*
*wtf*
*fish with bait*
*fish give sepith and cooking ingredients, yay*
*get more bait with bait*
*wut*
*fish with bait that I got from fishing*
*get more sepith and items*
*finally finished fishing after 3 minutes*
*walk down path for 5 seconds*
*immediately runs into another trash mob*
*mob drops some bait*
*noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo*
*starts fishing again*
Omg, this game is soooooo long. I've literally been playing like......all day, and I just got through chapter one. And I barely spent any time on the casino, and I didn't really spend that much time fishing either. And I didn't get stuck anywhere. Omg. I have stuff I need to do in the real world. This is not going to work. I'm going to have to pace my myself.
Indeed!
I'm kinda worried about eventually running out of bait, then finding out you need a very specific kind, for a very specific purpose, that only drops from a very specific monster... and you can't get it anymore. That's keeping my fishing urges in check.
I do enjoy fishing in RPGs. it's always very relaxing.
Reminds me of this scene from 3:15 to 3:25

Actually, the "poker" minigame is like a game that is rigged to win!
look: the maximum bet is 10 coins (50 zeny) and you can only lose it.
The multiplier is up to 9999, which is LOW. Because the only important thing is a streak, because if you collect 13-14 pairs in a row, the multiplier is 8192->16384.
So, the only strategy is on the first move, if you don't get a pair, choose anything low-chance, like Flush. You mostly lose, sometimes you get a pair.
After that, just look for pairs. If you have 2, 2+2 or 3, just hold it and sometimes it gets upgraded.
If you don't, just take any card (I take the rightmost) and exchange other 4 - it often gets a pair, or 2 pair even.
After several turns like this you get, for example, 2 pairs, the multiplier becomes 6192*3, and caps on 9999.
Instead of 18576.
So, you get only *1.5 instead of *3.
And you don't even need anything like ROYAL FLUSH.
Nope.
In about 8 minutes you usually win 99990 medals. Which you exchange for, maybe, 99 long barrels, sell them for 250 coins each, and get 25000 coins, while losing 50 coins several times.
I didn't check the efficiency of buying and selling lower-cost items, but 3000 coins a minute is a pretty nice win already
