Raz's NG Nightmare Boss Thread (spoilers obviously)
Need help with a boss? This will be the thread. A NG Nightmare game is a freakishly difficult endeavor frequented only by the bravest of brave and the mad. I, myself, am the latter so any advice I can give to my fellow gamers will naturally be quite sound. These strategies should be near foolproof on any difficulty not Nightmare so without further ado...

VITAL Items for a successful completion of the Prologue:

  • Luck quartz (from a full bp save transfer)
  • Emergency Puppet (also from said save transfer)
  • Celestial Balm (save transfer)
  • Proxy Puppet (found in a chest in the initial sewers)
  • Surprise Cookie (found in a chest in the initial sewers along with recipe)
  • Ingredients to make at least 12 more Surprise Cookies (bought from Phy BEFORE Estelle goes to bed the first day)
  • 5 Teara Balms (found in tent in the forest)

All items should be saved till needed (which will be stated).

Kurt

Stats:

Lvl: 40 HP: 4575
STR: 594 DEF: 371
ATS: 192 ADF: 88
SPD: 34 EXP: 150

Drops: Heaven's Eye

Notes: Hits for roughly 1200-1300. Has a defense buff which has a bad habit of gutting any physical damage you can do. Uses Whitecaps to heal for 500 anytime he's lower than 1.5k health. Has a ranged attack that hits for too much (see: 1400-1500) avoid "proccing" it like the plague. Make sure you have 200 cp saved for the fight after this.

Recommended lvl: 40+ (Preferably have Anelace at 41 though it's not mandatory)

Orbment Setups:

Estelle - Line Orange: Luck, HP 1, Evade 1, Mind 1
Line Blue: Luck, Defense 1, Cast 1, Action 1

Anelace - Line Orange: Evade 1, EP Cut 1, Attack 1
Line Blue: Evade 1, HP 1
Line Green: Evade 1, Impede 1, Action 1
Line Pink: Evade 1, your choice*

Recommended Gear:
Slot quartz so you have access to La Tear and Earth Guard. In order to get Earth Guard you'll have needed to transfer a full BP FC save to get the Luck quartz. Without said Luck quartz Kurt will likely smash your face in so beware. Action 1 is mandatory on both characters. Cast 1 on your Earth Guarder is technically a bonus but don't treat it as such.

*Hit 1 will negate the buff you get from Evade 1 but will allow less misses so it's a trade off. EP 1 will give such a small EP boost it's inconsequential.

Recommended Items: EP Charges (you'll need them trust me). I'd take no less then 5. Healing items will help. Revives shouldn't be mandatory but i'd obviously still bring them.

Positioning: Set your characters 1 row down from the top of the tactics grid and 1 square away from the horizontal edge. This is the furthest you can position from Kurt to not "proc" his ranged attack on you. Kurt will run up to you in his 1st or 2nd turn or so. Enjoy that one free turn you get...

General Strategy:
Earth Guard away! Use your support character to keep Earth Guard up (I use Estelle because she can also slot for La Tear) and your offensive caster to attack. Keep whittling down his health with Soul Blur or even throwing in an Eight-Leaf Blitz if you have cp, time and he's not defense buffed. Proper use of La Tear can save you a "turn" which is absolutely vital if you're doing a Nightmare run. When Kurt hits 1.5k health strategically start to amp up the offense (at the obvious cost of your defense) and eventually you'll burn him down.

Welcome to the easiest Nightmare fight of the Prologue. Enjoy what comes next...

Now people just can give link to that thread for any boss-related question in SC.
Good job, Raz.

HOLY STREGAS!
(Details will be given later/soon)
Sewer56 Feb 7, 2016 @ 12:05pm
Because this fight was absolutely nuts (took a really good few hours to pull it off including failed attempts, planning etc.) I might aswell post this the "Rassius" way. Holy Stregas!, praise Aidios! this insane challenge of mine was awesome (and a lot harder than Mueller IMO).

PS. I once failed with 1 hit left on him in the progress, he had 3 turns in a row (no you did not misread that), even with my speed buff on (which expired after his 2nd hit not to mention even more time for him because of cast delay from my previous turn). He used Zero Impact, Sonic Shot AND Infinity Combo in a row, I was dead, from one player, from max to 0 before I even got a turn again to say the least.

An absolute monster approaches...

No, really....

Enemy List
Walter (Enforcer VIII)

Stats:

LVL: 90 HP: 30256
STR: 2637 DEF: 1204
ATS: 0 ADF: 634
SPD: 122 EXP: 128

Drops: Fists of Absolute Doom (on poor Zane).
That speed.... Uhh! No good.

Shadow Cougar (x2)

Minion Stats:

LVL: 88 HP: 13139
STR: 2175 DEF: 1249
ATS: 0 ADF: 513
SPD: 82 EXP: 31

Drops: Having done pretty much nothing, oh and they give you a nice EP charge III but ignore that.

Player/Ally list
Zane Vathek (an absolute TANK)

Stats (on video):

LVL: 99 HP: 17275
STR: 1138 DEF: 1638
ATS: 430 ADF: 75
SPD: 79 DEX: 29
AGL: 27 MOV: 9
RNG: 1 EXP: OVER 9000! (Well, in reality 0).

Original Rassius' Notes
Walter's average attack hits for ~6500+. Walter's Infinity Combo hits for 7000+ easy and his Lazer Bullet is a line based AoE that hits almost as hard as an average attack and has a str down debuff. Walter's Sonic Shot hits as hard as an average attack in a small AoE but his nastiest non s-craft is Infinity Zero. 11000 damage is not uncommon and assuming the one who was hit by it still lives (unlikely) they will find themselves with a str debuff. Ultimate Blow also hits in a small AoE for ~11000 damage and on top of that has a near 100% faint proc. In other words, Walter can wipe your entire party in a single turn. The Shadow Cougars hit for roughly 5000 and have Seal Blade and Death Blade attacks. Wind Blade does equal damage in a line based AoE.

Requirements

Party: Zane, just one and ONLY Zane

Recommended/Required LVL: 97+ (and just as many attempts as Mueller gave you - okay maybe a bit less because you can just use my strats :^) ).
Extra Requirement: 175+CP.

Orbment Setup
Zane
Orange Line: Topaz Gem, Onyx Gem, Cast 2 (Required to buff speed without dying)
Blue Line: Topaz Gem, Gold Gem (or Water Gem)
Green Line: Topaz Gem, Water Gem (or Gold Gem)
Pink Line: Topaz Gem, Anything (Locked slot || Septium Vein recommended), Wood Gem

DO NOT EVEN TRY USING RUBY GEM, YOU WON'T SURVIVE THIS MONSTER

Recommended Gear: THE BEST YOU CAN GET. Speed gear is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL without desist. I used Avalokiteshvara (Ultimate Weapon) as main, Aura Guard (to have DEF as high as absolutely possible), shoes of choice were Prometheus (speed + def), Shield Orb (speed + def) and Grail Locket (necessary, as his S-Craft inflicts faint and Cougars can inflict deathblow).

Recommended Items

4 Zeram Capsules + 3/4 (Approx) Zeram Powders, OR 6 Zeram Capsules. (You will deal pretty much absolutely no damage otherwise).

Rustic Bone and Marbled Steak (x2 approx)
(In most cases you will be not lucky enough to get the very very rare RNG where you get to start first so you can buff yourself with Distend, this will be your only alternative).

Positioning: Take the back centre, shifted slightly towards either end (see my tactics grid at the end of the video).

Strategy

The "Go Home with your Murderer Fist" strategy:

Making it possible to win this fight, at all, is 100% about AI manipulation, and I swear by it, if you are really lucky you could get by, moving into a corner at the start and making one of the cougars useless, but to really have at least a somewhat, but still REALLY SLIM decent chance you need to make both redundant (or know literally every single time when Walter uses Zero Impact and blocking it with an Earth Guard - only an option if your health is pretty much max, REALLY STRICT TERMS).

Walter, without hiding it can literally just flat out ruin your day whenever he wants by dropping 2, sometimes 3 attacks in a row, with a potential chance of killing you if you are not on 100% health especially if you are unbuffed or he gets either a STR 10%+ or even worse, a crit on Zero Impact. He hits so ludicrously hard that you literally have to heal every time it is your turn or else you're completely dropped. He's completely immune to all stat debuffs so you have to just deal with his (nearly double yours on stock stats) speed.

The cougars can either deathblow proc. or 2 shot you if you don't abuse their AI in order to make them effectively useless. Casting Clock down or AT Delaying the cougars to swarm Walter alone should be priority #1 in a normal fight but this is simply not possible in this ridiculous scenario. I repeat that you have to absolutely keep your HP at max, no matter the cost.

Clock Up EX is absolutely essential for this fight (otherwise you'll drop quickly even if you heal alone) and should be thrown up immediately after making it even somewhat possible , that is by DEF buffing first and getting good RNG on Walter's attacks he uses (Sonic Shot etc.). On your attempt to use Clock Up EX, if he drops Zero Impact, even if you had almost full HP before then you're basically done with unless you're lucky enough for him to miss his 2nd attack (if he gets one which is almost always) or the cougars miss and you're lucky to scrape yourself with a few hundred HP. AGL is literally your best waifu you've ever had this fight because every one of Walter's attacks is physical and thus can be dodged, you'll find often that AGL will literally save your life.

Aidios help the poor sap that trys to do this one without Gaia Shield though.
Come at me HunterRassius! :^) :P I've raised the bar as high as it probably can be raised.

You should be feeling euphoric after this one as there's a pretty nice scene with Walter and Zane you totally deserve to see after you've put so much sweat after defeating this guy if you activate this fight normally as intended (I just force triggered the fight via memory editing and hijacking the fight that loads as I did not have an appropriate save file that is both Nightmare and pre-Walter - if you want to ask me how this is done feel free to do so, I have the memory address I have found myself for the GoG version, but if it does not work for Steam users then I can tell how it can be obtained).

It feels like the masses are starting to become unruly of late. Why do I have the sudden urge to become a hammer to pound some nails back down?...

'Gratz though Sewer as i'm sure it couldn't have been easy. I couldn't really say much about the Loewe hard mode fight unfortunately as I don't like wins that involve "luck" much. I believe you can actually break him at times as the video you posted had him sitting back casting Silver Thorn a good chunk of the time rather than say making a clone and thus making your life a living hell. It's near always his first or second move for me. But then again that's just personal bias on my part.

As a sidenote, how do you get such great formating btw. I'm kind of a stickler for the stuff but I don't know all the steam html codes.

You also reminded me that I have to review all my posts on this thread... /cries.

There's a 'formatting help' button when you post replies that has all the syntax that can be used on the web page.

I use
HEADERTEXT[ h1] [/code] for my headings as such.
Text
for my quotes and I use [ code ] for any text I want without formatting applied (Edit: This doesn't work on Steam for some reason, whoops).

As for the Loewe fight I actually revised my strategy and seem to have an idea on how to tackle it with less RNG involved, though whether he summons clones early, which I've been able to somewhat manipulate from what it seems (by my positioning and low health - natural, suggesting to the AI not to clone) is definitively RNG. I find that during normal battles he summons his shadows/clones very early for myself too, but not when using one person as such.

I might redo that video, or even try Nightmare potentially - but I have no idea whether that is actually possible.

That quote to you was just 'banter' BTW, just for fun :D, we're all chill here after all.

Edit: This fight was really nuts, it's like Mueller brought his friends over.

I also tried a few other fights before, Weissman is impossible (he'll use Dimensional Exile and you vanish getting a game over no matter the circumstance), Angel Weissman has the confuse attack where he inflicts confuse even if you have Grail Locket, and you're dead. As for Loewe then maybe, though that will be EVEN HARDER and I doubt it. Luciola I do not know yet, Renne is probably impossible to keep damage down from Pater-Mater though I haven't looked at it enough and Bleublanc should be easy.

I reckon that apart from the Weissman ones all of them should be doable on Hard without any large issues.

This is Raz attempting to make bullet points

  • Raz went to the market
  • Raz bought himself a hammer
  • Raz found some nails to pound down...

This is Raz still attempting it..

  1. Raz wants to cry
  2. Raz has a lot of posts he now needs to edit

Boy don't I feel dumb never noticing that button. Well it's funny that I figured out about half of them just guessing lol. Yea I realize it's banter but if you throw the glove... =P

Edit: Okay that cleans up the post quite nicely. Think with the headers the post will be a final edit. So right now... all of the Prologue posts and that's it basically.

Edit2: God I so don't want to have to do 3 chapters with Schera... /headdesk

Thought I'd make a few notes. You can add them if you want.

Spear Jaeger unlike Kurt does not always cast Illusion if one of the girls is out of range. You can position one of the girls directly in the corner and the other one as you described in the guide. Sometimes he will throw out his shadow spear but usually he will run up as usual. You may get one additional cookie in that way.
On the other hand I could not beat him on level 43 in 10~ tries Sure that's not a huge amount of attempts but I was never even close. Is it possible that he misses slightly more in the Steam version?

I don't agree with clumping up for the Orguille fight. It seems counterproductive. You can earth wall his attacks but if you spread out you don't even need earth wall. That should cut down on resource usage (ep charges) a lot.

Against Stormbringer you can spread out in such a fashion that all party members are in La Teara range but Stormbringer can only hit one at a time. Oh, and slot La Teara. You didn't specifically mention it maybe it is obvious to you.

There were a few other fights besides the bosses you mentioned that found very hard, harder than many of the fights you did mention. For instance the sheep ambush in Zeiss when Tita sets the device at the pillars/ruins, the Mantraps also in Zeiss (huge speed and damage + lifeleech is evil) or the freaking birds in Grancel (feather shower) These were all way harder than the Enforcers at the towers which were almost boringly weak (except Renne obviously, Renne is power).
