Schera or Agate?

Just thought I'd start a discussion about something different to the cost.

The store page says 'Partner up with either Schera or Agate on over 70 hours of core gameplay to thwart the growing evil that threatens Liberl.'

Which one will you pick and why?

both, because i'm replaying the game fourteen times.

I will also play the game at least twice, so I'm going to pick both. Which one I will pick in my first playthrough will depend on my mood on that day, but I might go for Schera just to start with a more familiar situation (Estelle being accompanied by her mentor, while the lone wolf kicks some asses on his own). The opposite gets me more curious (I imagine all the bickering Estelle and Agate could possibly have, and Schera might show her less teasing and more serious side when her favorite disciple isn't around, like in FC on that scene with Olivier aboard the airship) and I tend to keep the most intriguing options for last so that I have even more motivations for a second playthrough.

How long are you with either one of them? Do you pick just one to be your partner for the entire game? How much does this change the plot/what you learn about each's backstory?

I will probably choose Schera for first playthrough, as I love her.

Probably Agate for my first playthrough. His interactions with Tita are adorable.

It's only for chapter 1 if I'm remembering right. Both do eventually make it into your party no matter what your choice.

They will be locked at the second slot in your party for 3 chapters. It's not like a VN route selction; the story will still be the same, just slightly different dialogue.

For gameplay purposes I recommend Agate. You will find a lot of gender-specific equips in SC and having Agate helps you keep gender balance early on. Also there is a boss fight at the end of chapter 3 which you will do with the character you did NOT choose and Schera is far better for that fight as Heaven's Kiss has good synergy with chain craft, which has good synergy with a temporary character you will have for that battle.

Probably Agate. Because he is so damn badass and I want to see more of him.

On my second playthrough, i'll choose Schera.

For balance purposes, Agate's probably the better match since the other two characters in your party in Chapter 1 are casters, so having a physical bruiser to even things out might be best.

That said, I'll probably take Schera first, play to the end of Chapter 3 and then restore and take Agate.

I dunno. Agate is cool and I like him better as a character, but I thought he wasn't as useful in combat as Schera (especially later on). His magic's weak and his skills weren't exactly great for multitargeting either for most part.

So I'll probably go with Schera.
