I'm a bit confused about Trails of Cold Steel placement in timeline...
Ok, I've just finished SC, and went on looking on the internet for Trails of Cold Steel and it's place with trails in the sky. Sometime later, i found this:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/694913-the-legend-of-heroes-trails-of-cold-steel/72626524

"There's also an unavoidable story spoiler for something that happens in SC, simply because Cold Steel takes place where and when it does, compared to the story in Liberl."

Errrr...correct me if I'm wrong, but can you guys explain me how can an event that happened in an other country entirely and ONE YEAR after the start of Cold Steel, how could that event happen in the first place? Does the game even take place during SC trails in the sky? what? Confused

It is my understanding that Trails of Cold Steel takes place several years after Trails in the Sky, so it likely refers to events that happened in Trails in the Sky, spoiling them if you've not played them beforehand.

CS is two years after FC and SC. I believe the Sora games are in 1202, and cold steel is in 1204.

But it says "Cold steel takes place where and when it does". Doesn't that mean that ata certain point in the game, an event that happened in SC will have an effect in Cold Steel because at the time you ar eplaying the game it happens?

This is a case of you misreading the context of the conversation. The conversation in that thread is asking whether it was better to play FC before Cold Steel. The statement that you quoted thus changes context.

You have finished SC and know what happens at the end of the game, but for someone who hasn't finished SC then Cold Steel will spoil one of the key plot point in SC. This being the Orbal Shutdown Phenomenon.
That's ich! Jan 2, 2016 @ 3:33pm
One Word: Olivier.
ZippyVtuber Jan 2, 2016 @ 3:41pm
ah. About that, i though it would be something like that, and that your orbements wouldn't work becuase it was happeneing right now as you played. So baisically, they are ghoing to talk about the Orbal shutdonw phenomenon, but as in the past?
Walke_893 Jan 2, 2016 @ 3:47pm
Yep, pretty much.
ZippyVtuber Jan 2, 2016 @ 3:54pm
ah.

In the early hours of ToCS you can actually do some optional reading of books in the library, one of which briefly summarizes the events of the last few chapters of SC from an outside perspective. There are also references to the 100 day war, and a vague reference to what really sparked it. So yeah, I'm glad I waited til I finished SC to play it.

i do know who sparked it...damn thta idiot. Like Estell said.
PS: Btw, is there a satisfying ending to Trails of cold steel? Or will it be like trails in the sky FC where there will be this huge cliffhanger and i will have to beg my dad to buy it agin to know the end? Does it even finish in the seconds chapter..hope it does, if that's the case... What do you think?

This is about a reveal regarding a major character in Trails in the Sky.

The spoiler is below:
Olivier spends most of Trails in the Sky in hiding who he is- which is Prince Olivert Reise Arnor, one of the sons of Emperor Eugent. This isn't the case in Cold Steel, as he's back in Erebonia, acting officially as the prince. He shows up in the prologue and is flat out introduced as Prince Olivert, instead of Olivier Lenheim. In fact, I can only think of one point in the entirity of the two games (Cold Steel and Cold Steel II) when he uses the name Olivier.

Hell, even the Japanese website for the game lists him as Olivert Reise Arnor, instead of Olivier Lenheim. The last time he was actually called 'Olivier Lenheim' is in Sora no Kiseki the 3rd, simply because the people in the party know him better with that name. Past Sora, he hasn't used the Olivier name once- save for a random sidequest in Ao no Kiseki.

Regardless, the main reason for it is that 1) he can't really hide who he is in Erebonia, since the royal family is well known, and 2) he's no longer hiding and actively working as the prince now.

Yeah, CS ends on a cliffhanger, CS II is confirmed for 2016 and CS III got announced on Japan a few weeks ago. I know it's not what you would like, buuut we have to support this series if we want all the games. They already "skipped" 3, but i guess they'll come back to work on those

I just hope that CS 2 finishes the story nicely, if it is a direct sequel to CS 1, as it's the only one sthta will be localized that we knw of...
Meredius Jan 4, 2016 @ 7:24am
But... there's also CS 3 in the works.

I'm still going through SC (starting chapter 6) so CS will be for Feb for me. :)
