EDIT: Also, Sudeki. That should count too XD
But because they're doujin, international distribution is a bit of a difficulty, yes there's steam, but steam is not a Japanese platform.. it's growing there, but it's still not exactly something to take for grated.
Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure there are scores of RPG maker engine games that are actually good. The engine isn't bad, just people dont' take it seriously cuz they can't think of many good examples in English.
Then it's a good thing that XSeed will bring Corpse Party to Steam, considering it falls into both categories (doujin games and RPG Maker games)
And I don't know much about doujin games, but I agree when you say that some RPG Maker games out there are as good as any other good game. Of course I refer to those with both a great story/gameplay and that make use of original assets rather than default ones.
I agree, Chronicles of a Dark Lord 1 had some epic boss battles, and Doom & Destiny is an RPG-Maker made by Italians and has a mediocre-to-bad translation, resulting in hilarity (and a D&D-based storyline). When you consider the price points, there's a lot of fun to be had for little money, if you do some research on them first.
What is a "doujin" game? Is Gibo:Stepmother's Sin a doujin game? I hope XSEED localizes that game next, it had a compelling plot, characters you love, brilliant gameplay mechanics. I really cared about the choices I was making.
If it gets localized by xseed, my initial reaction is that it wouldn't be doujin, but fortune summoners and reccettear were doujin so who knows (they weren't localized via xseed but you know)
Are any of them on Steam?
She's too modest to think people would pay for them.
Looks better than quite a few 10 buck games
How many hours does it usually take to play it to the end (at a normal pace to enjoy the story, not rushed of course)? There are two other long games I want to complete after finishing Trails in the Sky SC, but if Star Sword Chronicle is a short game (or at least around 40-50 hours max) I might seriously consider trying it out first.
Free RPG? Sweet. This better be difficult, and have a brilliantly penned story. I have high standards for things I get for free. Oh dear, Windows 10 is worried about this, let's install anyway. Cmd.exe... all up my computer's ass, I feel violated. And it's over. That was intense.
I'll give feedback when I get to this, but I recently got SC, and I don't know if I can put off playing it anymore.
About 20-30, depending on what you do. It's also about 75% done. So just note that there will be more to it later.
It also will start off a bit akward and slow, but gets better as it goes along. You can see how her game making progressed over time since she's worked on this for so long.
