Difference between fishing rods?

Anyone know? Is the only difference between the types of bait they can use? There doesn't seem to be a lot of information.

Fishing rods allow the use of different baits which in turn affects what fish you can catch at any point in time. Once you get the best rod that uses all baits other rods become obsolete. That's pretty much it.

There's another difference, in the amount of bonus given for your timing. In fact, the "best rod that can use all bait" actually sucks on that category (only beating out the first two rods), so you're better off using specialized rods most of the time, unless you've missed obtaining one of them.
