Do you ignore Chain attacks too?
I just started Chapter 3 and I've probably only used chain attacks 3 times total so far. It's quite possible I don't understand how to use them well but so far they seem underwelming to me and I basically forget they exist most of the time. Are they really good if you know better how to capitalize on them? Any tips?

Chain attacks end up being one of the most powerful things in the game, yes. Spells are not buffable so physical damage quickly overtakes magic against anything tanky. And of course, nearly all of the heavier hitters are painfully slow. What chain crafts do is compound turns. If you let Agate or Zin attack, then chain all three other people off them one at a time, you've essentially decoupled their good damage from their terrible speed by giving them everyone else's turns.

There's also an attack bonus attached to larger chains, and of course it's easy to make it all happen on an ATK 50 or critical turn too. It's not uncommon for a Chain 3 to put out as much or more damage than most S-breaks.

Chapter 3 has a very tanky end boss, so you might be experiencing this firsthand sooner rather than later.

Chains are amazing on normal, but the higher the difficulty, the worse and riskier they become, mostly due to high enemy DEF stats in SC. Chains have a load of delay (especially the high level ones) and so they're incredibly risky when it comes to using them on nightmare where enemies normally 2-3 shot you.
Not to say they're bad, but you do absolutely need a physical comp on those difficulties and stacked buffs (la forte, true distend etc.) for them to even be viable, which isn't optimal apart from maybe ch. 8 where physicals are top dog regardless.
Though they can deal a ton of damage and have very high reward.

They also tend to work very, VERY well with Schera because she can just nope the whole party out of those long delays.

Agate, Chain 2 with Agate, Chain 3 with Agate, Heaven's Kiss, spam Agate and his infinite CP some more.

Yup, agreed Schera is amazing with her AT advance regardless of team comp.

I only used them as finishers. I agree that the damage doesn't outweigh the turn delay unless you have Shera in your party. You can also use them as a last hurrah for someone who's about to die anyway. Might as well use the CP before it's gone.

Not in this game. They are not bad, they just cost a lot. I sometimes use them if I have 2 or more physical build character on my party and my enemies are close to each other. I also use them as finishers sometimes but the situation usually does not come up.

I use them a lot in 3rd with a certain character as he is amazing with chain attacks specifically but yeah.

I would've thought 3rd would be where it fell off, as that character is strongest when he spams a cheap solo craft.

I usually use chain crafts on good opportunity turns (defenses providing of course). But yeah you don't typically go all the way into a Chain 4 unless the fight is already pretty much over.

Are you talking about the most broken character in the game or a certain large sword user? Cause I am talking about the first large sword user you get in the game.

Oh HIM. Yeah he's basically a mini-Agate.

Agate does a bit better with chain though since he's a CP battery.

I don't use Agate all that much in that game though not gonna lie. After I get him, I instantly go for Orbal Gear and that's it. He is good, it's just I marathon the sky games whenever I play them and I use him A LOT in SC. (Draguna edge, spiral, s-craft spam)

The character I am talking about also has some really interesting uses with certain bosses.
