Weird performance issues
Running the game in DX9, regardless of whether I use borderless or not, has issues with slowdown. The game runs fine when you first start it, but then for some weird reason it becomes a laggy mess, eventually being unplayable. DX8 makes it stutter like mad and has the same issue.

I'm on Windows 10, I have a GTX 1060, Ryzen 5 1600 and 16 gigs of ram. My drivers are up to date. Any idea on how to fix this?

I've tried disabling mipmapping and hardware vertex shaders to no avail.

I also got a 1060 and this happened with me as well, but weirdly enough it fixed itself after I left the game alone for a while. Sorry I can't help more.

I have the same GPU and I noticed that if I lose a battle and choose retry then and only then I get slowdowns.

I usually just quit the game and launch it again and all the problems seem to be solved.

Nevertheless I hope they'll fix this bug.

the game appears to be broken for us with modern GPUs, i'm gonna try the original trails out and see if it has the same issue.

EDIT: FC appears to be the same as SC, which is bizarre because I recently played through the game, albeit on an older version of windows 10 due to issues updating my PC. maybe a windows 10 update broke the game?

Are you alt-tabbing in and out?

The only time I have problems with the game is if I attempt to play in full screen (exclusive) and alt-tab, at which point it gets choppy. If you want to alt-tab set the game to borderless.

This happens regardless of whether I alt tab or not I'm afraid.
I see. Regardless though, I don't think it's a GPU problem as I use a 1070Ti which I believe is newer than the 1060 and have no problems.

- If you update using GeFoce experience, have you tried doing completely clean install using DDU?
- If using something like Gsync, disable it.
- Have you tried changing CPU core affinity to run the game on less CPU cores?
- Tried running the game in windows 7 compatility mode?
- Try copying D3D9.dll from C:\WINDOWS\system32 into the game folder

I tried all of the above but unfortunately the issue remains, thank you for your detailed response.

I think I've narrowed down the cause. If you use an S-Craft/Break the game freezes momentarily, then works perfectly. However, freezes then appear in the menu of the game. Looks like an Nvidia driver bug that will never be fixed because Nvidia doesn't have older games on their bug fix priority list.

can't the devs fix it then?

btw, update, i've been playing the game in borderless and it's working ok, i'd much prefer exclusive fullscreen though as input lag annoys me.
