So the hive community is not on STEAM and does not play the steam version?
I would have to buy a new game?

No we don't play with the steam app. No you don't have to buy anything.

Most of Hive competitive scene plays on Board Game Arena or Boardspace. Both apps are free. BGA does have a membership if you want to play some board games but many of the board games are available for free which includes Hive. BGA is probably more convenient to use since you can play turn-based and I think you have to finish the whole game in one setting for BS.
