#hpoverflow and sources of "overhealing"
I'm trying to use #growhp higher than maximum and #hpoverflow together to create a creature that can Soul Vortex or Leech Life into a larger form, but I'd like to also be able to do it with wholesome methods. Heal effects outside battle, seem to do nothing on targets that are "at full health", and in battle most heals look like they won't be cast without a "targets at less than max hp?" check.

Are there any effects to add HP to a unit that are 1: able to go beyond max hp but 2: do not use the heal logic? The monster has already got dominion bonuses, I'm not sure whether Enlarge will be carried over to the second shape but I'll try it, is there anything else that'll increase hp or any way to temporarily overheal a regular unit?

Soul vortex is interesting, but is that not for fatigue?

I thought Soul Vortex drained hp and life drain produces fatigue healing as a side effect in my experience. It's a really powerful thug/SC buff for that reason; the more outnumbered you are, the more resilient you are. The idea of applying it on a fragile chassis and running into a pile of enemies as a risky way to try to "level up" before getting killed is one I've never considered before. It's a cool idea, and I like the idea of a choice between a safe, slow approach vs a fast, risky road to power.

anaris, this is the third or fourth time I've read about your modding and thought "damn, that sounds cool." Do you have plans to release any of what you're working on?
Ah yes, sorry, I was getting confused. You're right Scrapulous - Soul Vortex does drain life. I think my afterwork brain was thinking of communion setups.
i do plan to release this stuff but I also plan to continue having adhd and doing incredibly weird stuff - so far I haven't finished any of these ideas, partly because I keep having a hundred more and partly because I keep coming up against these kinds of weird "oh i'm off the map here" modding command situations hahah.
like this one started with me going "huh none of the pretenders for Ind have excited me" and has snowballed into something that's going to be impossible to balance lol

Meh, the important thing is that it's fun. Balance is neat and all, but like, the base game isn't exactly a paragon of balance you know? There's plenty of broken bs that's like "ok sure, if I have this super specific thing I can handle this, but uhhhh... do I?" and a bunch of nations answer with "well uhhhh... is it turn 60 and I have been doing well enough to break into a bunch of non-national paths in a sufficiently meaningful way?"
yeah but i hate turning mods on and off and keeping track of that, so I want stuff to be at a level where i might still play vanilla stuff hahah. like if i accidentally make a nation too good what i'm really doing is making every other nation into B-tier picks for myself?

I mean, the solution to that sort of problem is to buff the vanilla stuff?

Like, my response to "I don't think it's mechanically a good idea to pick The Virtue but also the thematics" was to go make a mod that gave the Virtue a bunch of OP start sites :D.

That way madness lies, or more specifically, giant overhauls that are compatible with nothing and roll in everything I've ever been bugged by in any nation hahah. I don't think I've ever played Dominions and not gone "hmm could use more national spells"! I have a giant text file of like, things that need testing, from "slings get 2 attacks" to "R'lyeh gets 30 new units and 12 new spells" that might end up being that, but it'd end up being EVERYTHING.

yes and?

Dominions Enhanced was a very good mod and I am eagerly awaiting whatever Red Rob does for Dom6 :D.
Red Rob did not release DE as his first mod :p
