fear gets old fast when every single player starts taking the bless
Fear is way to powerful with no real counter play. Which seems against the spirit of dominions. Whats the point of making armies bigger in 6 if they route after 1-2 rounds of combat. However the bless is also really cheap to pick up.

Games are starting to get really stale when 1/3 to 1/2 of the lobby is running fear.

Yeah I'm hoping that Illwinter is working on it, and just taking their time to get a fix that they feel good about sticking with.

It's expensive (requiring pretty bad scales), and there are some counters. E.g. one counter for it is just having an awake Pretender monster or SC prophet that can ignore the bless and killing their stack of sacreds with it early. Another is to avoid making melee contact using anything but skellyspam, and yet another is Touch of Madness plus Berserk sacreds.

In a current game, an Asphodel ran over the MA Man with Fear bless thanks to having a ton of stats on their bless and being able to berserk all the Black Centaur. But Asphodel is kinda a special case; they have no trouble getting to high level research early thanks to not having to wait 8 turns to get a 2CP fort up.

But my current policy is that I'll probably mostly play MP games where the bless is banned until the Fear mechanics get patched; as is, it just makes for a less diverse/interesting early game.

Yea Fear feel realy unbalanced with how fast its working atm, they need to add more counters to it if they want it to stay in its current form



There is also some bug that berseked units flee from fear in some cases, i guess both berserk and fleeing is applied at the same time, berserk should cancel current routing units to be fair

We have a spell that can break units out of berserk.

How good/viable would it be if Sermon of Courage would break fleeing allies out of a fear rout?

The thing is that it's actually really affordable, thanks to the demi lich. The main cost is picking incarnates bless and thus foregoing the points from being imprisonned. On a demi lich, it cost 156 design points with 174 points left if taken awake.

One chassis abusing a bless sounds less of an argument to change the bless and more of an argument to change the chassis.

ya, its not costly at all. You can nearly go dormant full scales while getting it along with astral paths to tp lol. (+6 scales, 7/8 if you count heat 1 as good)

lich is just an example, because its the cheapest, not like the other pretenders make fear to costly to get. Id argue its on the power level of ethereal or quickness

I'll bring it up on the beta forum. I believe illwinter is aware that people are banning fear blesses in some games and they may wish to do something about it.

fear cannot be eternal, at first you get scared, then the terrible sight becomes familiar, i.e. it simply should not act the entire time of the fight, but only some turns, then some kind of addiction follows

Good idea, maybe have Feat impact Morale X times the first time a unit is effected by it and after that have a -Y to attack and defense while inside its aura after that.
maybe even the minus should be time limited but alot longer.

Fear is a magical effect, not sure we should treat it as humans being scared. It's pure terror in your mind, like an extreme phobia.

Sermon of courage being able to rally retreating troops would be a flavorful way to combat fear, but maybe too strong for fanatism.

What has always struck me as counterintuitive is that a terrifying unit attacking a long line of soldiers can frighten the entire squad, even if the opposite end of the line cannot see the attacker. Fear would become much less threatening without this strange feature.

If the fear is magical, maybe it should wear off sometimes once a fleeing foe has gotten some distance away?
