More content (as you say, you don't really care about this though)
New magic path
Battles are now realtime rather than turnbased (though you still cannot issue orders mid battle)
Underground cave layer on the world map
Many interface improvements (mostly in terms of shortcuts to do things)
Improved AI
Improved mod support, including steam workshop support
Built in lobby system for playing multiplayer games
Those are the main things I think. It would be fair to say that on a surface level, especially if the change to the battles being in real time is not relevant to you, they are very similar games. Dominions 6 is better, but Dominions 4 is also a fine game.
The list of things that haven't been changed between 4 and 6 is probably smaller than the list of things that have changed.
So for me it would definitely be worth it, especially if you can get it on a discount.
Here are a few other posts about the same topic for more details:

Like ugh the old fiddly research system were you basically put 100% research into Enchantment but when you were close to hitting your goal you needed to fiddle with it to allocate the amount to just level Enchantment to you goal and the rest into Blood or whatever (as any overflow research would be wasted until you went back to researching Enchantment again)
The new research queue is so much more convenient.
Personally I liked Dominions 3/4 a decent amount, but the the switch to real time combat engine and other upgrades in 5 changed it into my favorite game... Until 6 came out :).
