Dominions 6

Dominions 6

CD Key violation?
Me and my brother use the same shared copy to play the game. I have the game on two computers, since I sometimes fulfill my own turn on a work computer, while my brother fulfills their turn usually at the computer home.

Until now, both on Dom 5 and Dom 6 everything worked fine. Anyone got any idea why this issue appeared all of the sudden?

Possibly if you have two separate PCs connecting to a single server all of which are using the same CD key, this might cause a violation (I know multiple from one CD key on one PC does not).
Is there a way to remedy this from happening further, if I do my turns on the same PC, my brother uses?

Yes I think this would work. Though if using the same PC you could just use the hotseat mode without a personal server, right? That definitely wouldn't cause a cd key problem since there's only one instance of the game running.

You can start a game with multiple human players and then just switch between the nations.

It means that you each take your turns using the game on the same computer. Hot seat implies that you both take turns sitting in front of the same computer which is usually done using the same chair.

Ah, well yes, that worked before. Thanks for both of your input, it does seem like this appeared because I connected on the work PC.

You might want to check Remote Play Together too if you happen to be away from said PC. The logistics of it might be a bit annoying to set up, but should allow you handle the game from other PCs so long your brother is around to start it up on the main PC.

Not that I'm interested in circumventing the copyright protection, but from what I've ascertained is that you can play from multiple computers with one CD key as long as you use the same computers to submit the turns. The issue specifically happens when you use a computer that wasn't the original computer that submitted that nation. You could though, for example, submit multiple pretenders from different PC's using the same key (e.g. typical LAN play).

Or at least, that's how I was able to play on multiple PC's with one key in Dominions 5. I'm not sure if anything changed. Worst case scenario was from work, I would simply use Steam's stream feature to submit my turn by streaming my home PC to my work PC.

Well that's a dumb problem to have in 2024. Plenty of people use several computers to access their Steam account. Like a desktop and a laptop, or a deck. I hope Illwinter bros will fix it someday!

It's because this game doesn't require Steam to launch so it's not using Steam DRM - the copy protection is a CD-key so each different computer online is required to have a different cd-key to aid in copy protection.
