Horror Cult random event
Hi! I'm loving Dom6 so far but stuck on how to respond to one of the random events. As MA Marignon I got an event where a Horror Cult spawns in a castle province and needs to be rooted out. I've tried various combos of patrolling, preaching and site searching with Grand Inquisitors, mages, and my prophet, but so far none of this results in any response in the turn message log; the red book icon is shown over the province but with no note about the event or how to respond. Some other events enable a local character action "Investigate (event)" but it looks like this one doesn't. Anyone found this one and have any tips?

According to the Dominion mod inspector, you need either dominion 6, or dominion 3 and a priest preaching. Though the latter only has a 5% chance.

And if it already has "taken root", it is there to stay.

Oh really? Interesting. Hadn't really gotten that out of the events. Though they do tend to be a bit non-linear. :D

There does seem to be a false prophet spawning that is apparently the "leader" of the cult. So killing him doesn't help?

It's an evil event.

Spoilers below:


Get dominion as high as you can as fast as you can in the province. I usually drop a temple there as soon as I hear rumours of the cult. If you can get dominion to 6 you start getting a fair chance of uprooting the cult every turn.

Get as many priests as you can preaching there. The 5% chance to overturn the cult is per priest preaching, but you have to have a dominion of at least 3 for them to have even a chance.

Patrol out false prophets. One is created every time you get the message 'a leader of the cult is spreading his blasphemies in secret.' Removing them doesn't directly help eradicate the cult, but their secret preaching lowers your dominion, preventing other methods from working, so they need to be removed.

The event chain is basically a race against time. Each turn there's a fairly small random chance the cult progresses it's terrible schemes. If they get far enough, the 'Horror cult has taken root' message, the province is lost to them forever and they start again invading other adjacent provinces. You have wipe them out before they get too far.

Oh no :/ unfortunately it seems I've already gotten to the "taken root" stage; that happened quite quickly before I could even get a priest over there. If I'm understanding right, any actions in that province itself are now useless and I should instead just park an army there ready to patrol any adjacent ones where a message pops up. Or if I just let them fester will they eventually spawn an uprising that can be rooted out? I've sunk a lot of time into this playthrough and they're in my most important non-cap province - I was really hoping Cardinal Carmont would be somehow able to witchburn his way out of this lol!

I like the random events overall but some can be hard to keep track of in a large game. For the red book map icons indicating an ongoing event, I wish these would consistently show a brief mouseover tooltip identifying the event and what can be done to interact with it.
