Allow bridge construction?
I think it would be nice if nations could build bridges.

The idea is nice, but I would root for just some nations, not all of them.

I’m not a fan of the idea, myself. There are relatively few barriers or other map features that impact the strategic layer of the game, and adding ways to decrease the number further just pushes maps towards further homogeneity and pulls some of the character out of the maps.

Illwinter have said they always saw magic taking the place that infrastructure would have in more traditional wargames and 4Xs. Who knows, they might be amenable to a 'part waters' spell that makes all river connections of a province passable for a turn. Could have an earth one for mountain passes.

Sure, you can do the same thing with temperature spells, but you have to hit both ends of the connection and you kill population. A lower cost, lower impact utility spell seems like it would be useful.

I don't think it's possible to mod such a spell with current tools, but there are hordes of knowledgeable modders out there so who knows...

Come to think of it, it might be possible to mod a province enchantment that gives every unit in the province swimming or mountain survival for a turn.

I like this idea, may be an ability that could do the same thing would be interesting too. Like sailing but just for rivers and single province lakes. that way you could have summonable commanders and items that give the ability to part waters.

Construction and defences would also be neat too. Not just forts but a way to alter regular battlefields with some obstacles perhaps.

Well, that's something I find really funny, sailing commanders can't cross rivers.

Well, that's something I find really funny, sailing commanders can't cross rivers.

Of course you aren't getting a big ocean vessel into a dinky little river. :P

Yeah sea going vessels generally can't go into rivers. Viking longboats were the exception not the rule.
