The most common response for doiminions to question that is not specific enough is "It Depends"
You will probably have to read the introductory notes to decode the notation.
However, it is very prescriptive and not necessarily beginner friendly, but it is quick
My bad, I've put the link immediatly after the (
Walks you through things and gets you started. Just won my first battle and I can already see the potential for lots of strategies.

Definitely watch the tutorial videos, but I just want to say you can't go wrong with an awake boar pretender that has a hard skin bless and some production scales for your troops.
Infantry is like heavy infantry with 19prot or super heavy infantry with 23 prot. 20-40 Heavy infantry can take neutrals with some losses. A black lord (that can be a thug) can take a neutral with 5 bodyguards with 0 losses normally.
With Ma ULM you will forge A LOT because master smiths use 2 less gems and with a dwarven hammer you can make a 5 gem item cost 1. I used my pretender to forge the hammer because you need earth 3 for that and you need to be lucky to recruit a earth 3 smith. I'm using to forge some basic items for my black lords to become better thugs, later you need earth boots for your mages.
With const 6 you get lightless lanterns and your research can take off from there. You can also make quills earlier but you need air gems and a smith with air or your god has access to air.
Magic wise you can buff your armor or use your priest mage to function as artillery with throw darts and the more powerful version at evo 6.
As a beginner I'm still killing my black lords and being useless with my mages but I will improve with time...
Your nation already does give you +prod and +drain limit increase so you can go 3 in both. Taking pretender with same scale bonus as nation does not stack.
All constructions have been moved 1 research higher. So con7 for lanterns making rushing them fairly harder. As for quills you can get lucky and get couple random air smiths to site search with and craft them. Don't count on it though.
As for OP while ago I made an overview for MA Ulm on YT for Dom5 and I'll make one for Dom6 sometime soon as well. Don't want to post link to my channel but if you want search for my name and and MA Ulm ;)
I'm sorry, can you elaborate on that? It says in the manual Ulm has prod and drain limit of 1, so wouldn't it be better to make the pretender with order and drain 3, even if they not stack?
