Cloud saving, does it work in Dom 6?
Hej guys,

I saved my game on one PC, but this saved game is not uploading in the cloud and I cannot play it on my laptop. I have Cloud saving enabled om both devices in steam. Is there an option in Dominions 6 that I am missing? Or is this feature not working?

Cloud Saves do not appear on the store page, I don't think Dom6 supports that. Probably because saves are in different spots depending on your OS and Steam dislikes that.

Really? So there is no Cloud saving at all in Dominions 6?

That would be a problem for me.

You can set it up yourself with something like google drive. Just have folders on both machines sync up. Back in the day with Dom4 I shuffled a flashdrive around with my Dom saves between college and home.

That is actually a very good idea. Thx mate!

No luck mate, I tried syncing the game between 2 deviced on Gdrive, but did not manage to make it work. I gave up and will ask for a refund. Personally, I have no patience anymore with games that cannot provide basic features like Cloud saving, while they have delivered a part 6 of the game. Thx anyway for your idea!

Why doesn't it work? I've made stuff like that work fine on my end. What issue do you run into?

Cannot get it to sync between 2 drives from laptop and pc. I am also not an expert with Google Drive, so might be just my knowledge on syncing files :)

Could also try OneDrive, there a multitude of clound syncing solutions out there.

Nah leave it. I really do not have that much time during the weekend and would like to enjoy a game in peace, without any crazy solutions for basic functions (which take me 1 hour to figure out). If the developers decided that a Cloud saving feature is not important, then it is hard for me as a customer to buy the product and enjoy it. And this is part 6, which makes it even more funny for me that this feature does not exist.

Thx anyway! I will get the game maybe in the future but only with a big discount. I do not seen the value for the current price.

The engine is older than Steam and the way it's structured literally doesn't work with Cloud Saves. They'd have to rebuild the save system just to make it compatible. I don't see them do that for just this issue. Unless there's another benefit down the line to doing it you won't get it.

Yeah, but still, it is important to provide some simplicity for the customer. If its an old engine, it needs to be upgraded to provide support for ppl when they play the game. Anyways, since I am stubborn and really wanted to play the game, I solved the synchronization problem with Google Drive. Will enjoy my game now finally :)

No ill intent meant but I think you are assuming this point.

Cloud saves could also actually just be a folder you point at for syncing files, and a process of a few lines you send to the Steam API whenever the app closes to upload the content of this folder. If I were Steam, I would have done it this way. Which means it would be easy to add it, in that case, to any game which already has save game files.

I hope the developers include cloud saves at some point in the future (unless it has been part of a patch note already and I did not notice it!)

Not an assumption. Dominions saves their games into different folders depending on the OS. Steam Cloud does not support a system like that. To work with the Steam Cloud API they will need to unify the saving systems.
