Malazan
Do any of the faction resemble races from the Malazan Book of the Fallen? The pretenders seem like the ascendants from that series. There are a lot of cool fantasy races, as well as heroic characters and magic. It would be great to roleplay one of the ascendants manipulating one of the races the way they try to do in the books.

There was a mod for Dominions 4 (I believe) that was a homage to the Malazan novels, but I don't think it carried on past that game.

The Unfrozen via the Hidden in Ice spell are straight up T'lann, as they're undead frozen cavemen with magical flint swords.
There's also a malazan mod for dominions 3

Dom6 manual says that one of the new nations, Nidavangr, partly takes inspiration from the fantasy cycle you're referring to. Although I have to admit that I've neither read Malazan Book of the Fallen nor played as Nidavangr yet, so I'm just relying on manual on this one.

OMG, that's great news! I need to read the manual. Hopefully a new Malazan mod makes it to the workshop.

With the ability for maps to have multiple dimensions now, I'm sure we'll also see custom maps that have the warrens as locations. (If you haven't read the books, these are roughly equivalent to DnD's elemental planes. They're the source of magic, but also a physical place you can go.)
