Does perfect parry counterattack not work when other dances are equipped?

I'm close to losing my nerve when it comes to killing a Shokera for mazo talisman challenge.
I can parry it as many times as i want but when i press RMB to trigger the counterattack it never seems to happen.

Half of the time nothing happens, other half it just initiates shinden charged attack (which won't even reach the enemy, since Shokera jumps backward ever time it's parried).

I've been having this problem as well. I just can't get the counterattack to happen even once

I have the same problem and it's starting to bother me. It is the only challenge I need to have all the areas at 100% before starting the NG+

You block an attack then press Y or Triangle depending on controller after a block. Assuming you unlocked the ability for SOH of course.

I know how it's supposed to work, the problem is that it does not work, especially in case of using it against Shokera.

Just equip the talisman that makes it easier to do a counterattack.

I used the Shiden dance to do both objectives in the cemetery. I managed by doing them separately, perfect parry as one and then normal block into counter as another.
It's much easier to pull off that way.

I don't think you can counter-attack off a perfect parry, those are two separate unlockable skills that can't overlap as far as I can tell.

Perfect Parry = You time your block perfectly and deplete the enemy's stamina gauge.
Counterattack = You press the dance attack (default Y/Triangle) as an attack is coming WHILE you are blocking, which does an attack that does considerable health damage.

The two are mutually exclusive I'm pretty sure.

Don't perfect parry for counterattack. Hold block and hit triangle when the attack is about to hit. Window is generous.
