Mukadejoro (centipede) boss, 3 minute mark, how?
By the time I light up all the lanterns, dodge his BS unblockable that goes all over the place, I land few hits but then he summons larvae to attack the princess. Stun lasts for few seconds, I do no damage, what's the catch here? I mostly had woodcutters and archers because I don't see how others could help.

The boss is affected by debuffs and for you to do damage you have to hit the worms when it comes out of its body.

I am not doing that challenge yet until I have more a slots and my units are more upgraded.

Yeah I figured I had to hit those things but I cannot seem to understand how to be effective at all since they tend to move on both sides of the boss' body which makes me jump over and desperately attempt to move villagers to the position.

Also can you enlighten me on debuff part a bit? I seem to have missed that part.

If you use ascetic while it's stunned, it will expose the weak points longer and able to do more damage to it.

Upgraded Ascetic is the way to go to complete the optional objective I think, considering you can just go back after upgrading the units and don't need to attempt it immediately.

You do not need to light all the lanterns, just break his guard and the squishy bits pop out. The fire attack skill and upgraded archers works well, but the boss wastes a lot of time running around in the dark and you have to bait him back into the light.

Light the lanterns, once all are ignited the boss enters a vulnerable state and your villagers can freely attack it.

Right before the lanterns go out again, return to the Priestess and recall your villagers.

Then, rinse and repeat.

light all lantern is the best way to against it, also full 5 archers with highest upgrade will help side reward 3 minutes

Has anyone in this thread actually done the side objective? Sounds like a lot of 'should work's and not a lot of 'does work'. A team of fully buffed axemen with villager damage+ accessories don't deal anywhere near enough damage to it for a 3 minute kill. Feels like there's a trick I'm missing. Half the fight is running laps around the arena relighting candles and doesn't leave enough time to DPS it's obscene health bar down in time.

EDIT: Immediately after this rage post I beat it in 2:40 with 4 axemen and an ascetic. Make sure to send everyone in just before the final candle is lit so they're ready to start wailing. Hit it with the Suzaku blast once the leeches are out, and when it's guard breaks buff as many axe-men as possible with Rikugo's Favor (you will need 2 Tsuba guards for this). Hit the leeches on the opposite side of your axe-men to spread your damage out. When it's out of range send all your men to defend with L2 and do another candle lap- knocking baby leeches out of the way if you find them. You won't get another Suzaku blast in time so make sure your Rikugo buff is actively recharging. Then repeat when the lights come back on you should have enough time to finish it off.

Mad how much more difficult this side challenge was compared to every other one so far.

Youll unlock the ablity to level up and buy skills for you main character. Some of that stuff makes overpowering bosses easier, as does smart use of your villagers.
I cheesed this after unlocking most of the classes haha. The Sorcerer class can essentially drop a map-wide (?) nuke once they charge up their bar. The more you have on the field, the faster that bar goes. So I deployed 2 of them, and it took like.. 45 seconds? To a minute to charge their skill and they two-shotted the boss heheh. It would have been faster if I had more crystals going in to make more sorcerers. This strat works on some of the other bosses, too, particularly the ones where you have a lot of villagers.

I finished it by using the Soh's upgrades, charge attacks that destroy the other gauge and the red circle finisher, along with some earthquake ability that causes a stun.

But yeah, what a weird requirement, it took me too long compared to the rest, at least so far.

You can do it with the archers, extra attack for Soh, his double slash special attack and lighting all lanterns.
The bonus can be some other damage buff.
The hard part is to ignore the girl and only stay on attack and lighting lanters

So I just managed to get it at lower levels through a trick (or bug?) I found :

If you light all the lanterns and then stun the boss with Suzaku Flame right before it climbs the wall, it might just give up on climbing the wall at all and never turn off the lights, allowing you to burst through its health.

I had this happen twice, first time I got a 3:03 and second time I got a 2:18.

All Woodcutters, order defense at the start and speedrun the lights. As soon as they're lit, order attack and try for the trick I mentioned above.

Good luck !

I've done it. I hate this boss too, but I've got a reliable and repeatable method if you're still having trouble. Max out Ascetic. Make all 5 villagers Ascetics. This will work early on and lategame, you might need a little luck if it's early considering Soh's damage is nowhere near what it is later. Still doable though. Situate each villager next to the latern you're about to make your route on ahead of you (none behind you) and you can send them through the defilement wall without triggering the fight. Once they're set up, have the ones next to each lantern light each lantern as you pass to save time and by the time you make a full circuit, the first one will be done and you call him to light the last one. Take that moment to prepare for attack and once you get a bead on the damn thing, dogpile it. The first time, I got thing to loop in circles stuck in perpetual stun as I hammered it to death. The ultimate ability on Ascetic also does some damage, but the main thing here is just to keep it corralled. Then it's just about stance-breaking it to death. You can use stance-breaking Tsuba (Suzaku is good for this) or charged Oka dances for this. Just make sure you don't waste any stance-breaking attacks on it after it's already stance-broken. Then just cycle damage and stance breaking as needed until it drops. Punishing strike is effective for instant damage, but note you have a small window to get in extra damage before using it (since it ends stance-break).
If it somehow escapes, like it was climbing on the wall or something, and puts out the lanterns, make the rounds and repeat. In that case, you might need a little luck, but the run may not be dead. I haven't had issues with this method anyway. So I can confirm it works. Getting fancy with other roles brings on more headache than I'm willing to deal with on this boss. So you have the confirmation of someone who's 100% fed-up with the thing's nonsense. Most other bosses aren't this annoying.
If you're just 100% done, wait until lategame when you've buffed Soh a bit, then your damage will be such you'll kill it in under a minute with the same strategy.

Finally did it with 2 ascetics and 3 woodcutters with just the upgrades you have by this point in the game, what a huge pain in the ass
