aesthetics but a deal breaker for me and many others...
I've owned Wargame for a long time on Epic, and the lack of a story campaign to teach you the mechanics or how to read the infosheets or interactive tutorials made me uninstall it right away as I had no idea how to deploy my units, or what they even were, how to use them, what to use them against... and since I had a bajillion of them at my disposal and the game doesn't really tell you anything about how to sort that info...
I'd read a book, but I can't stand reading in-game wiki's or a 200 page file made by the community, watching 100 videos doesn't seem to help either. Three cycles of installing and uninstalling the game I grabbed warno, learned the game, and hopped back into Wargame with no problem.
I guess I just learn by "doing".
You don't need a tutorial imo just play with skirmish mode and learn.
Maybe tips at most.
Edit - Plus its cheaper.. diving into a new franchise with the priciest thing is silly.
When I first acquired Wargame: Red Dragon on Epic Games, I found it immensely challenging to grasp, despite having no problems learning multiple DCS modules, X4: Foundations, EVE Online, and even Foxhole. Hell, I can even play Prosperous Universe so I know It's not because I'm dumb. It's just the way my brain works I guess, and I just don't have time to sit down and learn another game by watching a zillion tutorials and reading epic-sized documents BUT I tried anyways.
Despite meticulously reading all the in-game help tutorials, I couldn’t even manage to figure out deploy my units. I had to scour the internet for a 200-page document and numerous videos to begin understanding the game, reading the info cards, and getting started - so I made this post because I wanted to help others like me get into Wargame: Red Dragon, because it's an exceptional game.
The breakthrough came for me when I acquired WARNO. I did so specifically because I knew they were from the same dev, and I knew the game had tutorial missions. The campaign missions provided clear explanations, walked me through the mechanics, walked me through the info-cards and anything else I needed to know and I was able to immediately transfer that knowledge to Wargame. This was a MIRACLE because I uninstalled/reinstalled Wargame Red Dragon at least five or six times because I just couldn't figure it out.
Every comment in this thread is simply people fanboying this game, saying "this game is better" and I really want to emphasize that I never suggested or implied that WARNO is the better game that isn't even the purpose of this post... but whatever -
Trying to set control groups on deployment? No can do. Trying to give units orders during deployment? Nope. Visible unit pathing and commands? No - just guess which route they are going to take and try to remember the half a dozen queued orders you gave to your arty. Easily seeing what unit a transport is carrying? Nah. Tabbing through a control group to quickly give orders to individual units? Nope. "Fast attack move", "Unload at position", "Hold fire" commands? Forget about it. LoS tool? Best I can do is "fire at position".
