Wargame: Red Dragon

Wargame: Red Dragon

I'd reccomend you play/purchase WARNO first.
They're practically the same game, same dev. Just different theatres of war, different timeline. But WARNO comes with all the tutorial and missions that will show you what you need about how to play the game, and understand it.

Otherwise, you're stuck with the text/image only tutorials (more like a rule book) the game provides, and online resources.

warno has terrible UI and overall maps graphics (broken arrow too if you ask me), it's
aesthetics but a deal breaker for me and many others...

WARNO is terrible. All they had to do was modernise WG Red Dragon

The whole point of this post is that you'll learn this game a whole lot easier if you play Warno first. I'm in no way calling Warno a better or worse game.

I've owned Wargame for a long time on Epic, and the lack of a story campaign to teach you the mechanics or how to read the infosheets or interactive tutorials made me uninstall it right away as I had no idea how to deploy my units, or what they even were, how to use them, what to use them against... and since I had a bajillion of them at my disposal and the game doesn't really tell you anything about how to sort that info...

I'd read a book, but I can't stand reading in-game wiki's or a 200 page file made by the community, watching 100 videos doesn't seem to help either. Three cycles of installing and uninstalling the game I grabbed warno, learned the game, and hopped back into Wargame with no problem.

I guess I just learn by "doing".

you're right about tutorials, in wargame they're non-existent...

Why would I buy warno first when wargame is what made Eugen great?

You don't need a tutorial imo just play with skirmish mode and learn.
Maybe tips at most.

Edit - Plus its cheaper.. diving into a new franchise with the priciest thing is silly.

My intention with this post is to assist others who might be struggling with the game like I was, or have similar experience as I did so they can finally fully enjoy Wargame. Which is why I recommended to play it "first". I guess I should have included more information.

When I first acquired Wargame: Red Dragon on Epic Games, I found it immensely challenging to grasp, despite having no problems learning multiple DCS modules, X4: Foundations, EVE Online, and even Foxhole. Hell, I can even play Prosperous Universe so I know It's not because I'm dumb. It's just the way my brain works I guess, and I just don't have time to sit down and learn another game by watching a zillion tutorials and reading epic-sized documents BUT I tried anyways.

Despite meticulously reading all the in-game help tutorials, I couldn’t even manage to figure out deploy my units. I had to scour the internet for a 200-page document and numerous videos to begin understanding the game, reading the info cards, and getting started - so I made this post because I wanted to help others like me get into Wargame: Red Dragon, because it's an exceptional game.

The breakthrough came for me when I acquired WARNO. I did so specifically because I knew they were from the same dev, and I knew the game had tutorial missions. The campaign missions provided clear explanations, walked me through the mechanics, walked me through the info-cards and anything else I needed to know and I was able to immediately transfer that knowledge to Wargame. This was a MIRACLE because I uninstalled/reinstalled Wargame Red Dragon at least five or six times because I just couldn't figure it out.

Every comment in this thread is simply people fanboying this game, saying "this game is better" and I really want to emphasize that I never suggested or implied that WARNO is the better game that isn't even the purpose of this post... but whatever -

Cheaper to buy European Escalation for 2,50 and learn basics.
WARNO is trash, much like Eugene.

I tried to come back to Red Dragon for a few games after WARNO, and the clunky UX made me feel like I was playing with thick mittens on.

Trying to set control groups on deployment? No can do. Trying to give units orders during deployment? Nope. Visible unit pathing and commands? No - just guess which route they are going to take and try to remember the half a dozen queued orders you gave to your arty. Easily seeing what unit a transport is carrying? Nah. Tabbing through a control group to quickly give orders to individual units? Nope. "Fast attack move", "Unload at position", "Hold fire" commands? Forget about it. LoS tool? Best I can do is "fire at position".
