Wargame: Red Dragon

Wargame: Red Dragon

No submarines, aircraft carriers, cruisers, or battleships?
What gives? The selection of naval units seems really limited from what we've seen. I could deal with there being no battleships since no one really used them that much after WWII, but submarines, cruisers and especially aircraft carriers are crucial components of any modern blue water navy. Hopefully they aren't holding out on these units just so they can release them as DLC later on and make a quick buck.

The developers have chosen to only depict the naval engagements that would take place close to shore, IE in coastal and littoral waters. Battleships, aircraft carriers and submarines would be dozens or hundreds of miles out to sea. Also keep in mind that the naval component of Red Dragon is primarily depicting ships & tactics used to support the combat on the ground, so don't expect the naval side of RD to be a whole different game. Feel free to visit the official wargame forums to get a better feel for how the game is shaping up.

From the closed beta I would say the scale they went for was already to ambitious. It's best they don't include them for the reason they are so very out of scale, and destroyers are already pushing that limit.

I believe so to STATIC and MCMACKY's reply.

Pokeravi, I would not worry about them "Holding out" game content to sell as a DLC at a later date. They gave out free content for Wargame: Air Land Battle.

Battleships aren't even in use anymore by maybe anything but tiny countries. They're ineffective compared to a modern destroyers and are outright pointless. There isn't even a single one left in the US navy.

Actually modern 'missile' battleships like the updated Iowa Classes (before they were scrapped) carried ship-to-ship missiles and CIWS systems. So they could have gone toe-to-toe with modern destroyers and cruisers.

The main reason that they were scrapped, at least in the US Navy, was that they simply were not cost effective compared to other ships. They were too large and expensive to maintain for what was essentially a big, up-gunned crusier.

I was really disappointed in this game . No submarine, no aircraft carriers? WTF?? And do not listen to "static"; when France attack Libya's with aircraft carrier were only a few kilometers from the coast. In short a good ♥♥♥♥, based on a naval war without aircraft carriers and without a submarine , thank you the studio French of game.Croa Croa 39.00euros Croa Croa

You guys do realize that carriers would be arty magnets, and also pack very little punch and would be practically worthless, correct?

The people that raise these 'issues' struggle to realise anything...

All air craft carries would do is sit there. You call in air support off the map as it is, having them called in from something you could see would just be pointless.

it is useless for you; we could destroy to cut air support and more it's a great piece of artillery.

??? Aircraft carriers are generally only armed with CIWS and short range SAMs for emergency defense. They aren't meant to fight in any way. Also, most of the planes in this game are land based, not carrier based. You wouldn't cut off air support.

Everything you said is false. Information before you talk, look at this. "From the raid on Tokyo General Dolittle in 1943, the strikes in Afghanistan from the Arabian Sea in the early 2000s, the technique has evolved considerably push back the range and accuracy of ship strikes . "(And I can give you other examples) and n°2 in this game Specific it is true that some aircraft are on land bases but many are solely dedicated to aircraft carriers.

Quite the opposite. The vast majority of the aircraft in Wargame are land based, and destroying a carrier would not affect them at all. Secondly, carriers have and always will be out of scope for Wargame. You can control carrier escorts in the campaigns, but the carriers themselves will not be in the game, period. And carriers would, again, be utterly worthless. They have very little defensive weaponry, and are sitting ducks to attack by artillery. Carriers do not fit in the game, and thus will not be added.
cashgrany Jul 15, 2014 @ 10:32am
I think they are a lot of dedicated only to aircraft carriers and aircraft they should no longer être.why aircraft carriers would be out of reach?? you kidding me? very few defensive weapons?? Read this "2 sol-air launchers RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) missiles (2). 2 rotary cannon anti-missile Phalanx CIWS 20mm. 2 launchers ground to air RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM missiles ). "Tries of approaching this kind of aircraft carrier. And let's not forget the fact that there is no submarine is a joke. Attacking an aircraft carrier with artillery loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
