107mm mortars
are they worth paying the extra 10 points over the 81mms?

If you play in multiplayer, I know that people use mortar mostly to smoke positions, so the 81 might be better for that.

If you really want to bomb and damage soft targets I would say go for the 107mm?

Also make sure to look at ammo counts between the two.

Yeah, the extra range lets one mortar be able to support much more area, at the cost of having a bit less ammo, though 107mm is a nice inbetween between 81 and 120mm. Damage output between the two is about the same considering their volley sizes and fire rates, one just does it in bigger chunks.

Oftentimes the 120mm mortars, if available, are ideal, as a central one can generally cover the frontline near fully, even with the ammo issues becoming more notable.

they have their use, when you need the extra range, and when you need to actually do damage, if you get a 4 stack of them they can be used to snipe important soft targets like heavy AA and recon squads, the smoke they make lasts longer and covers a larger area, so if you depend on smoke a lot maybe you might wanna run them as 1 40 point mortar is more effective that 1 30 point mortar and if you want to save money you are better off with 1 40 pointer instead of 2 30 pointer

edit: one thing i used to do when super heavy tanks were meta is locate the enemy SH, shell it with a 4 stack of 40 point mortars then before he can pull back send my own tank to take him down, that way his tank loses some hp and has bad moral
