I need some general advice here
I've played this game for a while now and while i'm beginning to understand some of the strategy involved i'm still having issues with tank and helo spam - my main issue here is that my missile units run out of ammo before the enemy lets up, and with my position being savaged i can't manage to get any logistics units close enough to resupply them.

Are there any specific tactics that can be used to counter rushes without incurring huge losses myself?

Don't rely purely on missile AA to counter choppers, any of the aa guns have more ammo and can go long without resupply. Try preposition supply unit with your troops and disable fuel resupply. Don't be afraid of using aircraft on helps if they are somewhat close to your air corridors, if you fear enemy air power countering have them retreat after one pass and don't be hesitate to be creative with them if the choppers are static or you can predict their path correctly Trying g using fire position with aircraft with cluster mentions or large/lots of bombs below them. I've downed and stunned a Redford chopper group with f111 for instance.

Wow, thanks for the advice! This will affect my strategy in future games for sure.

I general i try to send at least one to two supply truck with each aa group, more for some missile units like the Patriot or buk. But try to have the just far enough away from you aa to resupply by the edge or their ring or when you aa starts takin fire you might have supply truck detonating on you and making it worst.

Also notise that some AA guns can move and shoot at the same time, while some need to stand still to shoot. :-) This is important example if they travel that use the "move fast" command since they they will drive and not shot when under fire.

Best defence against helicopters are to use AA guns. Another way to protect your self is to use AA men. They are cheap and can easy shoot down helicopters or at least damage them so they fly in another direction. With other words you do not need to kill to stop the enemy and scare them away.

You can also down choppers standing still with artelleri or as the above player say, drop bombs.

Regarding movement, then many "new" players do not use the "E" key / attack command.
It work in such a way you click on the map somewhere, and then your unit drive form a-b and STOP when it are in range to shoot at the enemy, is very usefull feature.

You can also give your units waypoints to follow ( they are invisible though )
I think you left ctrl and clik several places and then they drive there and do the command you gave them ( or maybe it is shift ) you can use this example to make helicopters fly a path back to your farp and land automatic and refuel/rearm.

What factions do you play as mainly? if you want add me on Steam and I'll be happy to help you out!

I mainly try to play as a pre-1985 UK mechanized deck (Im crazy, i know), but i try to do a bit of everything.

If that is the deck you are using: use SAS and LAAD Javelins to help bloster AA. I have never really used the Falcon AA and unfortunately you can't get the Stormer (which is the a slightly weaker Candian ADATS) or either of the marksman AA. The Lynx could help thin most transport helio storms but watch out for HINDs. I think the Tornado GR 1 was the aircraft I first discovered the bombing tactic vs choppers.
Vs tanks the challenger 1 and chieftan mk 10 are the best tanks avaible to you and the chieftan is farily cheap with almost identical firepower and range but less armor but does have a smaller size (but unfortunately a lower optic but I always suggest having some recon units embedded with your armor, you'll only need a few vics dispersed to have a defensive front covered).
As stated before don't over rely on missiles. They have a limited ammo count, ATMs may have a high damage output and range but will quickly run out of missiles and will almost always miss if they loose sight even for a split second. They also give away their position very quickly, at the same time you deck largely lacks good alturnatives for infantry other than the SAS unless you can get a armored force in a city to have your basic grunts pound away with LAWs (if you can just frequently have your men fall back after vollies to building behind them otherwise the remain armor might shred them)
Any chokepoints that can be overlooked by your troops (espcially bridges) use arty to slow and stun rushes (motars will often be your best bet and can fire rapidly and quickly but lack damage) and harriers with rockets (they wil also stun and can do more damage on a light column with a fairly short turn around). If this is in range of other units like missiles or tanks they can wipe out or at least decimate an armored thrust. Also in such stunned areas drop a cluster bomb or and load of anything else you have. Just watch out for any enemy fighters if you haven't got air supremency yet, if they have a few AA mixed in have harriers hit them with rockets to stun them and thin their ranks before hand if.

Awesome, thanks - I do tend to do a lot with tanks, and i well know the pain of not having the starstreak or marksman systems. Is it better to deploy MANPADS in small teams or individually, i know that each group can only target one aircraft but with systems like the javelin is the extra hit chance worth it?

I've been trying individual and group deployment but i can't decide which i find better. Another thing i've been wondering is can infantry be deployed in forests successfully - I know the visual concealment bonuses for infantry are really good but i'm always worried that if they are seen then they'll be wiped out. Wondering if forests provide actual cover or just concealment?

I know i'm throwing out a lot of questions and i have enough playtime to know better but i'm still unsure on some things, I can Attack and hold points resonably well but it's rush tactics and massed artillery that still give me issues.

At least teams of two. While sometimes spreading them out enables wider coverage and more individual tageting since they won't all be aiming a the same target thus all wasted ammo but at a lower hit chance (and slower downing of helicopters).

Often in cover (city or forest) having a few two unit MANPAD team some what close to each other works best for me. Like having two set a few building apart so they can cover a larger area but still cover each other if need. I would also suggest keeping some other units to help guard them from ground units and vica versa. I couldn't tell you for certain of the amout of concealment vs cover actually provided by forest but in my experience forest provide some cover but it is limited by certain attacks seem over power or ignore this (rockets from aircraft). In the few forest infantry vs infantry in the open and vics in the open battles it did seem to help. The concealment was well worth it. I think at some time I read that forest offer about 40% cover vs open for infantry but I couldn't cite it. Also watch out for forest fires while there since that can wreck an infantry outfit fairly fast.
