FGM-148 Javelin
Ok so Pact has the T-90 The Su-27PU and the new german heavy artillery all of which were put into use in 1995-1997. America has ♥♥♥♥ Spec Ops compared to others and practically no good atgm. Why not put the Javelin in for the Americans? In was designed in '89 and used in the field in '96

They already said america were never gonna get it, this goes in the same bin as "why no F-22, etc" the devs didn't want to put it in.

I understand why there is no F-22 thats fair. But still. The fact that this games cut off period was supposed to be '91, yet there are units on the pact side that are mid to late nineties, it would make perfect since to add the Javelin. Its not like it would tip the balance towards nato. USSR has the Konkurs-M which, all in all, is a very good ATGM. The Japanese have the Chu-Mat which is the best shoulder fired ATGM in the game when you consider all stats (the only think it is slightly lacking is range). Even though they have the Chu-Mat, the overall effectiveness of Japan is still lacking which means that the developers shouldnt be able to say "Well America cant have the javelin because then NATO would have the two best ATGM." Idk man. I'm not really complaining. I love this game. Its by far my favorite one. The DEV team has done an amazing job. I just would like to see a couple things added the Javelin not even being on top of the list.

I prefer Rbs 56 over Chu Mat

If the US would get the Javelin the Soviets would get the Kornet. Both would be 1-hit-killers so its not going to happen. And the Kornet would have a range of 2800m :D
Not to mention, every time I try to find out more info on russian units, it seems for a lot of the good stuff they only ever made one or two and never operational

Il 102

Wargame is full of units which were never produced in significant quantities. America has the M8 AGS despite only about 6 of those ever being produced.

The IL-102 is amazing

Not really. Its situational.
EK4892 Aug 23, 2014 @ 5:19pm
if you are smart and use it appropriately it is amazing

The IL-102 shouldn't even be in the game. It was scrapped in favor of the Su-25. We might as well have the YF-17 and A-9 in the game as well. As for the FGM-148, it has a direct fire mode so they can just use that with a high AP value and not hit top armour, that way it would be balanced.

All factions have units which they probably shouldn't have. The UK's Lynx 3 and America has the M8 AGS etc, this is after all a game, not a simulator and the devs can add in whatever unit they want, and they've already said no to the javelin

The IL-102 is different in that it was deemed inferior to the Su-25. Ilyushin and Sukoi were competing for the Close Air Support aircraft contract and Sukoi won. The IL-102 program was then cancelled and the Su-25 went into full production.

This is a much worse case than the Chimera since the Canadians needed something powerful and that was the best option for the 1980s, where as with the IL-102, there were plenty of alternatives (Su-24, Su-25, Su-34) that were in service or entering production in the time frame.

You are right that the devs can add in what they want, but to me it seems like a big waste of time and money to model a unit that was cancelled due to the competing aircraft being better at the role it was designed for, especially since they could have just made a new Su-25 with bombs and added the defining and extremely obvious visual characteristic of early Su-30s and Su-35s i.e canards.

The devs have said no new units for any nations that aren't a part of Scandinavia, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss options. I for one, always implement the Javelin (direct fire) in my mods since it doesn't require a model change and isn't game-breaking.
