Strange, I came under the illusion that everything in this game was made or in development before the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Drop this discussion already.

Devs have said they don't care about a timeline anymore, but they have also said they won't add an ATGM team to the US faction.

Perhaps the devs took into account how if the Cold War went hot all of these weapons would still be developed.
EXTRA THICC Oct 24, 2016 @ 2:41pm
why not it only seems that it would a good thing to add

I think the timeline is still being followed to an extent but the devs do seem pretty resolute on the US doesnt need an ATGM team front.
Maybe those newer models are prototype units in game? I play USA exclusivly and it does suck not to have an ATGM to shoot out of a city building or forrest. But I accept that. USA cant have every best weapon. Or everyone in game would be playing USA. its bad enough as it is, Blu fills up faster then red in muliplayer. unless your playing russian/chinese time zones lol.

you really dont need an ATGM though, you can use tanks and tow2 missles or if you want cheap ATGM fire, there are some 20point cheap jeeps with two missles with crappy accuracy that might be on par with a ATGM infantry.

again, I do hate ATGM coming from all directions that side shot my tanks from halfway across that map it seems lol. You will have to choose another nation if you want that option... But then you might not have access to something you really like , like the atacms, or something else the USA has no other nation has. =)

America never really fielded a ATGM ground 'Team'.

America tried the TOW system on a ground mount and found the launch plume too large and the 15sec tracking time too long for that system to 'survive' on the battle field so the TOW went and stayed vehicle mounted. The M47 Dragon was closed thing to a ATGM ground 'Team' but the 1000m range again was an issue. Reason ground and light vehicle mounts have such poor accuracy in game, probably, is the potential of 'suppression' fire on the launch plume and 15sec ia a pretty long flight time to be sitting there not moving.

The 90mm and 106mm Recoiless Rifles hung around until 80 or so, The M67 90mm was man packed, we had them in Korea 77-78, and Alaska 79-80, and the 106mm (actually 105mm) M40 was vehicle mounted usually on Jeep's in US service, replaced with the TOW in the mid/late 70's.

In Germany in the 80's the "two guys and a Jeep" (with TOW launcher and 4 missiles) was supposed to 'slow' the Soviet advance by engaging at every 'turn' in the woodland terrain and scooting to repeat the process in the next treeline road 1000m away. Hit a Soviet Tank column with a TOW, Soviets deploy in battle line, move foward seeing nothing, redeploy into march formation and 'boom' another tank takes a missile, repeat, slows that column considerably.

The unarmored ground mount ATGM was not a thing with the US. From the M-150 to M-901, to Bradley the prefered method for the US was the Armor protected launcher.

The US is definitely not lacking in Anti-Tank, in general. Light Riflemen and Cavalry Scouts with Super Dragons are as close as we'll get to infantry-portable ATGMs.
