Factually false. Although the end product was certainly flawed for AoA, their sales surpassed their development costs.
Steel Division is not a "fiasco" in any sense of the word.
Also factually false. You somehow musn't have seen the 400+ post begging Eugen to develop a WW2 game, which they managed to do while still adding revolutionary mechanics (the Frontline and Phases). Also, like VV said, the majority of loyalists want Eugen to move *away* from the modern era and return to 60s-70s Cold War theatres.
I'm also glad that Eugen is bold enough to explore new game ideas rather than becoming "just the Wargame developers", since annual iterations of the same game would cause their creative minds to seek greener pastures and would lead to a stale, unimaginative franchise.
So you can have both a Cold War/Modern War set in 2017+.
@DasaKamov
Frontline and Phases of SDN44 are the best take aways from SDN44 and would go great in WarGame 4
Return to 60s-70s Cold War theatres, Like giving America and Russia Nuclear artillery like the W48 set at 0.072 kilotons (72 tones) and ZBV3 set at 0.1 kilotons (100 tones) for the M114 155 mm howitzer and 152 mm towed gun-howitzer M1955 D-20.
That would make a great game were Russian power is fading and NATO and China see opportunity and both make a dash for the riches in Siberia and under the Russian arctic ocean,
With Russia useing a lot of robot tanks like the Uran-9.
That would be a great game with a three way war with NATO and China fighting them selfs and Russia with Russia holding on to whatever land it has left and trying to push NATO and China out as they push back.
Sell it under a different name. Wargame should stay where it is, so "older" units are still useable.
On a side note Russia still has somting like 5,000 T-55s and T-62s in storage,
With ww2 and post war stuff like ML-20 and Tupolev Tu-22 in storage.
Just because the first Cold War ened in 1991 does not mean that all that stuff Russia had in the 1940s-1970s is deleted from existence,
Massive amounts were put in to storage were they have been for the last 25 years.
And as for a 1960s 1962 would be the best for a game with prototypes like T95 Medium Tank and Object 279,
M14 rifle vs AKM and Convair B-58 Hustler and Tupolev Tu-22 nuclear bombers.
Eugen's fans have tried to show them that honestly, their other games are not bad, but they hit almost everything right with Wargame and any major changes they've tried may have worked or not worked, but still didn't outshine Wargame.
I would love a modern Wargame, maybe 2010. I don't think it would need any major changes besides adding Iran, possibly Syria. 2 REDFOR nations one with a bit of homegrown but a lot of Russian units and a few American, the other heavily Russian. 2 different deck styles. 2 NATO nations could be Turkey and if people do not want something like Saudi Arabia/Jordan because they aren't really in NATO, a nation like Italy or Spain could be added even though they aren't really in the current conflict.
Naval could be overhauled and possibly a new game mode or overhauled conquest maps that don't seem like an afterthought
