Best paths to complete every character

Hello guys !

I started the game recently, had a lot to learn and understand, but here I am with my problematic: what's the optimal way to finish every completion marks on a character ?

For exemple : you can go through Mom's Heart then do Satan in the same run and it will count both as effective.

Is there more to do in this kind of run?

What's the minimal amount of runs on a character?

(I heard of R Key, but let's say it's pretty uncommon)

I usually go Megasatan Chest > Megasatan dark room (hope for void) > Mother > ascent (get tainted character) > Boss rush > hush > delirium > ultra greed
Chances are a void portal and a mama mega will pop up on one of those runs to open up void or hush on a "minmaxxy" run but chasing the timer also can be fun
On the tainted characters and most characters I'm currently waiting to do their unlocks because there's a lot that are really good and some that are just bad. Out of the reverse tarot cards. Most of the ones I have are really good. And getting unlocks that help with manipulating secret room and angel room pools are also really helpful. Getting an R key can add multiple completion marks and mama mega can really save a really good run going nowhere useful

Ok nice, I'll try and remember that ! I guess I'm forced at the beginning to beat only Mom's Heart and Satan ?

If you're still that early in the game, optimizing your runs probably shouldn't be your main focus.

Kill the Heart 11 times in total, then the Cathedral and Sheol 5 times each. Even better if you kill Hush 3 times on the way. After your first Chest / Dark Room win, unlock Dad's Key.
Once you've done all that, you'll have access to most things.

Well, I guess I'll do that then !

I kinda thought I could already try and do some time saving because I have a hard time with understanding why I should do two runs to kill MH then Satan when I can do it in half the time.
But yeah, knowing I'm still learning, I guess I should focus first on learning to avoid taking damages and stuff.

You don't. You don't need to touch the big chest to get the boss's unlock. Unlocks are awarded at the moment the boss ends its death animation.
So if you kill Mom's Heart and a Devil room opens, just go to Sheol, you'll speed up the "kill Satan 5 times" unlock. The Heart unlock of that run is already unlocked, no need to end the run now.

Does it count even if I die before killing Satan ?

As long as you die after Mom's Heart finished its death animation (which is true if you're already on the next floor), yes. No need to win the run.
(The same logic applies to every boss in the game.)
