is the local coop mode for only 2 players?

And does the online-mode lag?

local coop supports up to 4 players. the online mode severely lags because it is delay based and syncs every frame between clients, so if one player lags everyone lags, and the game will drop frames on its own regardless of if anyone's network is lagging because it bottlenecks whenever there's too many objects, and even things like reflections in the water count as synced objects that will cause too much data transferring.
