DO NOT BUY - Game is super short

Beat the game in under 2 hours - thought the first campaign was one of many, but after beating the final boss it turned out THAT WAS THE ENTIRE GAME.

Super short game, only 5 bosses to beat, I supoose it was a good 2 hours but I was expecting more from this game especially after all the good reviews.

The "replayability" is simply beating the game with different character and "challenges". I suppose that would appeal to some but not to me who was expecting much more.

SPOILERS: After you defeat "Mom" the game is over. You lose all your items and stats and start over. At least I bought this on sale and not full price.

There are 4 bosses after Mom and many more bosses that can spawn before her than the ones you likely have fought. Then there are the challanges you can do that give you certain item combos that really test your skill at times. Plus with all the items to collect that each alter the gameplay in what perks they give you you will never have the same run twice.

Killing Mom isn't even half of the game and BoI isn't built around "beating" it anyway. It is about the runs and not the end.

There was no game after I killed Mom, so I don't know what you're referring to. My character was wiped.

Save or just character? If the first them you got a bug. If the 2nd then that is a point of the game. To not gather all items in the game in a single run. But to run the game countless times with countles amounts of item combos where no run is ever the same and it gets harder with each time you "beat" it.

Looking at your profile, I see you play FTL. Does your ship not get wiped after killing the boss? And at the same time you could possibly unlock other ships/layout for later games?

In the same sense finishing the game once unlocks many things for later playthrough. Most significantly, you unlocked the womb, which is the chapter after Mom, Mom is now no longer your final boss when you play.

"New Run", also known as new game.

Play the game again. You unlock new levels and such once you've beat Mom. Each run is randomised as well, so you probably will get different items.

Think of it as a "level up".

Like what Glass said. BoI is like FTL, a game you have put over 80 hours into.

In BoI you do not keep all items you pick up from run to run. What items you unlock from all your runs go into a pool where one is randomly picked to be in every item room. The more you play the bigger the item pool gets and the lower the odds are to getting any one certain item.

To compare that to FTL it is like unlocking new gear found in shops. You don't start with new gear you find an must start a run with only what the ship has as stock. You can unlock new ships/layouts but you can't change the gear/crew of those ships/layouts.


Then again if you are tyring to say that you can't pick for example, Maggie the new toon you unlocked instead of the stock Isacc. Then your save file might be bugged or you picked the wrong save file. You get 3 of them. For some reason.

Is this a crude attempt of trolling? I hope not. In order to unlock more levels, items, characters and bosses, you need to beat the game many times. Every victory is making the game harder and bigger.

You see, mom is not the final boss. the next time you kill mom, you go to the womb. The boss of the womb is mom's heart, and then you go to either sheol or the cathedral, and fight satan or isaac. Then, after you've killed either of them 5 times, you go to the dark room or the chest. There, you fight either the lamb or the blue baby , who is called ??? . This is not even the end. Then you must get two key peices, to unlock the final golden door to fight mega satan , the true final boss. And your character is not supposed to be saved in the first place. How the game works, is you beat the game with certain character, and unlock new items to use with other characters. If your character was not wiped at the end of every run, that would defeat the purpose of the game.

You need to play through the game like 15 times to be able to obtain the final ending. Even then, there's items to unlock for ALL other characters and the spoiler guy.
